Recruitment and Retention for 2023

I saw that. Only the headlines. Not exactly sure what the issue is but I know Abdo and V’landys are two of the most arrogant Aholes in the entire country. It's so typical of them to dictate from on high rather than discuss and agree with the union and others stakeholders.
It's to do with extra payments for SOO and other non run of the mill normal games.

Sounds interesting. I've been to Tokyo and Moscow which are also mega cities. Tokyo in particular is the epitome of a cement jungle.

Anyway, as for Crighton, a player of his quality would of course be welcome for the right place but everyone can see an outside back on big money is the last thing the Dragons need.
Hi GCRV GCRV Even it's almost nothing but high-rise buildings there is a lot of green space. A lot of trees in the city and a lot of large parks.

First of all, Edward Edward, welcome to the forum. China is a huge country, major power and ancient civilisation. I think discussing China would be really interesting. I'm not telling you what to do, just informing you this thread exists (https://sgiforum.com/forums/general-discussion.16/) and wonsdering if it isn't the right place to talk about China.

Ok. I just had a few questions and didn't think it was worth creating a thread over.

ST. GEORGE ILLAWARRA DRAGONS

Players off contract at the end of 2023: 14

  • Aaron Woods (Obviously he will retire)
  • Billy Burns (better have a big start to this season or bye)
  • Blake Lawrie (keep him)
  • Jack de Belin (PO 2024) (keep him)
  • Jacob Liddle (Surely Muhlsisen, Hooper or Gromek will be ready to take over)
  • Josh Kerr (bye)
  • Michael Molo (MO 2024) (Needs a big start to the year or bye)
  • Mikaele Ravalawa (PO 2024) (love him but not fast enough for a good winger)
  • Moses Mbye (bye)
  • Nick Tui-Loso (bye)
  • Tautau Moga (bye)
  • Tyrell Fuimaono (might be worth keeping as a forward utility)
  • Conor Muhleisen (good luck!)
  • Sione Finau (is this the hooker or the outside back? As far as I know, the hooker still hasn't been signed. He's on a train and trail deal)

Another day of ********* (this club) winning the race to sign *********** this player but at the Dragons, we only get the rejects no other club wants.

Dragons re-sign Blake Lawrie

The Dragons have taken a star forward off the open-market, extending Blake Lawrie until the end of 2026

St George Illawarra have re-signed front-rower Blake Lawrie for a further three years, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2026 season.
Lawrie was set to enter the final year of his current deal but took himself off the open market by staying on at the club he has played with since his debut in 2017.

The 26-year-old has made 105 appearances for the Dragons. “We’re building something nice this year and there was no other choice in my mind but to stay at the Dragons,” Lawrie said. “I grew up in the area, this means a lot to me so it’s very exciting news and there’s exciting times ahead.” The Dragons have a number of players also coming off contract at the end of this year, including Aaron Woods, Jacob Liddle, Josh Kerr, Moses Mbye, and Tyrell Fuimaono.

Now his long-term future is secured, need an offload from him. But then again, every club needs a prop relentlessly taking the ball forward. I don't think Weymen had on offload either.

Exactly what I would have said! If he learns to pass the ball, that would be great but a prop consistently making 150m + a game not on huge money is well worth locking up long term. Need at least one more prop like him. Then props like Woods and Molo could do more of the skill stuff that are good at.

The key issue is how much he was extended for. Frank Molo is apparently on 500k. Based on that, Blocker should be on around 700k but based on ability, around 400k is probably fair. Maybe 450k at most.

Whatever the club has cooking with all the salary cap money, it seems no good or semi-good players are going to be recruited for this year. Might be time to start the "Recruitment and Retention for 2024" thread.
Can wait another week. I keep wondering if a deal for the immediate release of David Fifta isn't on the cards. Seems Titans are unhappy with him. His GF lives in Woolongong. Dragons must have a boat load of money. Dragons desperately need a good second rower. One that can bust the line. None better at that than Fifta. Dragons have a number of "hard working" forwards who might have trouble breaking the line to even out for Fifta's laziness but line-busting ability.

Seems like a good fit. So won't happen.

I simply can't believe they were trying to recruit Brodie Croft. I mean, I can believe they were doing it but I can't believe they are that incompetent. Melbourne didn't want him. He led Brisbane around the park to the wooden spoon and they were more than happy to pay a large part of his salary to go to the ESL because no other NRL club wanted him. So the Dragons come knocking.......

Thank God we didn't get him. This highlights the current incompetance of our recruitment team and manager imbeciles

It is being reported this morning in the D. T. that Brodie Croft, who was blasted by many including me for being an ordinary playmaker actually knocked back our offer not the other way around. This is an ideal example of what I have been consistently saying that NOBODY wants to play for our club under the current management and coaching regimes. If true that Croft knocked us back then that surely should be setting off alarm bells in the corridors of power. Now can you imagine what decent players think of our club? Not much. It's going to be a very long season I'm afraid

Knocked back by Brodie Croft? A blessing in disguise and a club scorned by players.
