I like it.. I thought 1 or 2 yrs max for the Couchies.. if this is a break out year, their next few contracts will be much bigger.. but they cant really be asking for big dollars until they are giving frank, jack and hame a run for their money...
Extended for 2 years?

I was thinking if there was a discrepancy on their value (hence testing the market this last few weeks), lets extend for 1yr and re-evaluate during next season after they play some footy... lets see what they can do with 1 more pre-season.

But 2 yrs is also ok... gives us about 18mths till we have to start having these conversations again.. by then they will be about 22.5yrs old.. maybe were getting a guage by then on their future value... just a little bit green right now for demanding big dollars.. anyway happy days..

Hate to damped the mood but last year Toby played 11 games and Toby 6. Flanno said he expects them to play more first grade next year...... FFS Flanno, say you expect them to push for Origin selection next year! I know RFM is still on the books but you have to bite the bullet and not pick him before the Couchman's no matter how much you might want to.

They will feature a lot more, RFM and Eisenhuth are going into the last year of their deals and won’t feature as often + Lawrie is on the outer and won’t play much barring injuries

So Couchmans won't be seeing much first grade next season and Egan none.

Flanno has lost the plot! He just can't let go of his journeymen. Gutho is at his 3rd club, Cook 4th if counting Dragons the first time, Val 3rd, RFM 3rd, Eisenhuth.... no idea. First I heard of him was a fringe first grader at Melbourne. Probably several. He's 32 now. Kyle Flanno 4th. Why does he keep signing and resigning these types? Don't get me wrong, some are astute buys but too many of them and they are all Flanno recruits.

Depth! Eisenhuth and RFM are both 30+ and will miss footy for periods at some point this year + Leilua or Su’a could get injured. It’s a good spot to be in, who knows - maybe Egan could jump ahead of RFM in the pecking order before round 1

They were "depth" last year but not so deep as to keep Couchmans out of first grade most of the year and Egan the entire year. And they played very badly more often than they played ok.

If Flanagan hadn't lost his mind, both would have been behind the Couchmans last year and at least RFM would have been behind Egan.

He's actually not, at least not confirmed. It went around for a while a couple months back of a potential offer on the table but nothing was ever confirmed and it's still being widely reported that he's unsigned for 2025. Unless I'm missing something it seems like flannos keeping it close to his chest until these player movements are finalised.

Thank god for that though he is listed in Dragons website.

I really disagree with this Flanno journeyman obsession, saying Gutho is a jouneyman is disingenuous at best he played like 5 games for manly as a junior coming through and has spent the last 10 years at parra with 200+ games. He's a leader and a straight upgrade on Hunt albeit in a different position. Cook is a massive upgrade on Muhleisen/14 role, couple years to combo liddle and share multiple roles, again a quality experienced leader. Val is a straight swap (and an upgrade in my opinion) on Lomax. RFM and Eisenhuth both very short contract, depth upgrades (if it was hook they both be on 4yr contracts lol). Tom being his Mr fix it for a year while he figured out juniors throughout the back half, and the Couchmen stepping up proved they are ready.

I've said it before Flanno was never gonna rock in and throw a bunch of junior to the wolves in his first year, it's not his style. He's trying to set standards and culture, weed out the crap and make everyone prove their worth. He's done that this year and with the signings now rolling in, and another full pre seasson, we will improve a lot again in 2025.

yeah, some of them are good buys but technically speaking, playing a game at one club is a former club. I rate Cook and Val at well. Well, not sure about Cook. He's getting really long in the tooth for a hooker but hopefully he has two more years left in him. Disagree about Eisenhuth and RFM. Shouldn't have been signed IMO.

It wasn't a question of throwing them to the wolves. They were playing well in NSW Cup for Egan or very well for the Couchmans but still couldn't get a look in behind RFM, Eisenhuth and BMM who were playing badly more often than not. I know all 3 of them, and Kyle as well played the odd good game but that shouldn't be enough! There was really else for Kyle but there was for the other 3.
