Recruitment and Retention for 2025

  • Corey Allan: He's gone. Surprised Flanno isn't trying to move him on already in light of Gutho's signing.
  • Jack de Belin: I hope he plays like he did last season and gets one more year.
  • Dylan Egan: I hope he gets a chance and takes it with both hands. I think he can.
  • Raymond Faitala-Mariner: Gone.
  • Viliami Fifita: Gone. Unfortunately just doesn't have the stamina to play first grade.
  • Sione Finau: I hope he earns himself an extension.
  • Kyle Flanagan: Coach will fight to extend him but really has to face the fact he's just not a pro RL player.
  • Jacob Halangahu: Hope he's extended soon. Though I thought he was development, not top 30.
  • Michael Molo: He goes ok for the most part but too many good, young forwards coming through to keep him.
  • Christian Tuipulotu: Flanno needs to give him a chance to play prop! Too slow to be a decent winger.

18. Mathew Feagai- Ressies
19.Viliami Fifita ?
20. Sione Finau- FIRSTS
21. Jacob Halangahu- Flegg or Ressies
22. Loko Pasifiki Tonga- FIRSTS
23. Dylan Egan- Ressies
24. Mikaele Ravalawa-Ressies
25. Sione Finau = Finau Latu- FIRSTS
26. Hamish Stewart- Ressies
27. Michael Molo - Ressies
28. No player signed.- Nathan Lawson (Top17)
29. No player signed.-- big prop
30. No player signed.- half back

Fifita is interesting. If Dan Lawson is able to build his stamina this big dude could be a real weapon and the enforcer we crave. Heres hoping. If not he plays out his contract in Ressies.

Disagree about Egan and Stewart.

Parra successful pawn off Gutherson and get JAC for 2 years. How good for Parra to get a 29 year-old winger who has done it all in the game for 2 years? If Parra improve dramatically in the first half of next season but Dragons don't, I think I might lose my mind.

I believe we are heading in the right direction with Flanno , and will be very surprised if we don't play finals footy next year ........ If we don't we will be starting all over again with a new coach if we do Flanno will get his extension to coach .......... So lets get behind him and the team , because I don't think I can go through trying to rebuild again with another coach .............
I don't think it would be fair to flanno to only give him next year to prove himself. Provided we can see an improved culture in the team it needs to be built on over a few years. At least a few years for flanno is required whith continual improvement as a kpi.

Argumentative because I agree with him? Bit ironic given we were having a reasonable discussion till you got upset others disagreed with you, but that's how discussion works. Your willing to throw opinions out there then be willing to discuss them. I'd like to discuss why you rate Hooks first year better as well?

You think it was mediocre that's fine, if you read my comment I literally said its not the signing that would be the issue for me its if he's being picked over others which we can't possibly know till next year if it even happens. That's why I agree that jumping to sack him when he might sit as reserve grade depth anyway is over the top.

Your right my view is different im focusing on the positive change, one signing shouldnt outweight 3/4/5 good ones in my opinion and we've had a lot of positive news rolling in so let's not spoil it with potential/maybe/unconfirmed issues that are all hypothetical at best at this point.
Easy way to settle it. Get a clearer idea where you are coming from and you can get a better idea where I'm coming from.
On a scale of A~F how do you rate Flanno recruitment for last season? I'll give you mine and why. A best and F worst. C is a pass mark.
  • Eisenhuth: (E) because had Couchmans in reserve grade for most of the season and Egan in reserve grade for the entire season. On form alone, he'd be a (D)
  • RFM: (F) Due to the players behind him and his own form was really bad.
  • Luciano (C) Did ok but hardly getting talked about for Origin.
  • Kyle: (E) No one to replace him really but seemed to get worse as the season went on.
So you can see my frustration and see why if he re-signs Eisenhuth, I'm on the sack Flanno bandwagon. It will prove he isn't honest or objective but merely signs those he likes and sends those he doesn't like packing.

Next question:
On the same scale, how do you rate Flanno holding back Couchmans for so long and Egan the entire season (even in the last week when there was no chance of making the finals) behind RFM, Eisenhuth and BMM?
I give it an (F). Easy to say in hindsight but as I say, couldn't even give Egan a run for the last game.

Another reason why if he re-signs Eisenhuth, I'm on the sack Flanno bandwagon. His first year wasn't good! he had excuses, I know but Bellamy or Bennett for two would have done way better with what they had. And they wouldn't have signed 3 of those 4.

And to be frank, Lucino was way better than the other 3 but hardly set the competition alight.

Flanno says that rather than being disheartened over losing his spot to their latest import, ''Tyrell was excited at the prospect of shadowing Gutherson" and being mentored by him. Flanno further said Sloan will play fullback, wing, maybe even centre because "he's a quality young player''.
Boy did I get this wrong as clearly Tyrell wont be seeking a release instead he has shown maturity.

Egan and Stewart.
Where do they fit into our 17. Surely blind Freddie can see Loko Jr and Latu are all class and are now ready for the big time. Will prob start season in Ressies and then be promoted while Couchies must start in the 17, so no room for Stewart/Egan.

Need depth in the forwards especially. Won't start the year in first grade but will get a chance at some stage.

Finau Latu is still only 18 atm and very raw, only debuted in Reserve grade in the final round, Flanno will likely want him to play consistent footy against grown men in Reggie’s before getting his crack in first grade like the Couchman’s.
Loko on the other hand is a bit of a wildcard, depending on his fitness and pre-season could potentially get a bench spot for round 1 or get used to playing big minutes in Reggie’s before he gets a crack in first grade.
