Recruitment and Retention for 2025

Tuitavake is just this year, Fifita (the big prospect at the time) has 2025 as well.

But I reckon hes a perfect guy to move on, someone will take a chance on a 23yr old prop with a big frame.. and we have the fringe prop space covered with MMolo, Couchman1, Couchman2, Tonga, Latu, Ackers, Stewart, and others..
Got that one the wrong way around but I guess neither will be retained.

I think Tuitavake is better than Fifita.
Yep agree.. he runs off the back fence, seems like a good kid.. might make it might not.... Fifita has the better quality carries but we cant have someone for 3-4 carries per game...

In a different era we probably hold onto them.. but next year the young forwards will be in cup, Latu, Tonga, Ackers, Stewart, probably a Couchie or 2 flowing in depending on who we buy, maybe Liu or Webster, MMolo still.. like we just cant have 2 more young props chewing up Top30 spots, we have other positions to fill.

These are the 8 guys off contract end of '24. Tom Eisenhuth, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Josh Coric, Max Feagai, Jesse Marschke, Connor Muhleisen, Jackson Shereb and Alec Tuitavake.

I'd be keeping Coric and Tuitavake while Max is making a good case at the moment to stay. I'd have had him over Matt to be honest.
  • Tom Eisenhuth - Bye
  • Ben Murdoch-Masila - Bye
  • Josh Coric - Resign
  • Max Feagai - Resign
  • Jesse Marschke- Bye
  • Connor Muhleisen - Bye
  • Jackson Shereb - Bye
  • Alec Tuitavake - Bye

This big unit is so frustrating and must be to his coach also. I really want him to remain in the RedV as he has promise. I wanna see him use his size as a weapon, run 120-140 every game and terrorize defenses. But I guess if he dont have the motor we are flogging a dead horse..

The improvement in both the Feagai's is Flanno's best achievement so far.
I talk to the boys a lot, great kids from great family..
I think there is a few reason for the boys poor form last year.
Firstly our defensive structure was terrible last year and the boys on the wing got unfairly blamed for it.
We had a compressed D that required the winger to jam in, the attack winger was then the FB responsibility but we just weren't good enough to pull it off.

The boys are defending better this year amd have commented how Dean's structure is a lot easy to employ.

Both the twins had babies in the last 12 months, they moved out of home and became family men. At 22yo it was a big change in their life and would of taken time to adjust.
So not all Flannos doing in my opinion.

Bud Sullivan was at his devastating best in what was his second game back from a fractured finger.

The 22-year-old scored a try and set up three more in the Magpies’ 44-4 win over the Roosters. Sullivan also had a linebreak, two linebreak assists and ran 137 metres to help the team break an eight-game losing streak.

It was a statement performance that came at the perfect time given the speculation surrounding his future at the Wests Tigers.

Around the same time Sullivan suffered the finger injury (Round 14) reports emerged claiming he’d been given permission to explore opportunities with other clubs despite not yet being one full season into his four-year deal.

He has dominated NSW cup games but that form hasn't transferred to the NRL. He needs an extended run without injuries to better develop his game imo.

Agree but could be a handy pick up with Tigers paying a large part of his salary for the next 3 years.

Bit of goss on JA (take for what its worth), apparently we did meet with DSaifiti yesterday, and made an offer but its well below what newcastle would be willing to accept, was estimated he was on something crazy like 870k.. so whether we are willing to move our offer... but we met other players today apparently, no idea who etc.. but there are a few clubs trying to shift blokes out of their squads now... so its rly tricky.. think flanno will go for value.. he doesnt seem too fixated on a certain player.

I feel like Stefano is the joker though.. once he makes a decision, the clubs that miss out (including the tigers potentially) will be back into the market.

A while ago there was talk of Bulldogs being in salary cap trouble and wanting to offload JAC.

Flanno jamming in plenty of meetings this week.
NAS has always been the target but we have to keep throwing offers at others.
As I said before lots of frontrow movement happening.
Schuster also in the mix.

That Schuster rumour just dropped in another forum (I reckon he would have to be a ctr option not a 5/8).. I cant remember if I linked this already but you can see him in this video from Volkman (and he looks much fitter), the 2 r training together I think its a gym not too far away but not sure, and its dragons shorts I believe.. I think Volkman would be a great signing if his shoulder is ok.. would love a real 7 option in the Top 30 that is good enough to potentially take over in 2026 or whenever..

Hopefully Ward or Reed is going to be halfback in a couple of years.
