Recruitment and Retention for 2026

Club option for 2027 though.. isnt that really just a 1 year deal? Maybe we didnt offer him that..

Tremendous amount of money and time to move a young family though for 1 year.. maybe he will just commute.
Yes, it is. Good for the club. If he's still playing well, and I bet he will be, they can have him play for another year.
So under Flanno we have lost our best back, best half and now best forwards. I know Hunt is a complete ___________ but he was still our best half. I know JDB is 34 but still our best forward. In return we got Kyle Flanagan. It's quite shocking just how bad Flanno has been.

Anyway, it's not over yet. He has a chance to turn it around. It just looks bad right now. Bad for him, bad for the club and someone should have told him, bad for Kyle because in the first 5 minutes after Flanno is sacked, Kyle will be told he's not in the new coaches plans for first grade.

Yes just checked the Dragons website to confirm what you said. Cheers Mug Fan.

Was it because the club low-balled him and he took offence? He doesn't get along with or doesn't agree with the coaching staff? Or just that Eels were willing to offer him more? If it's the latter, I'm stunned. Is Flanno putting aside salary cap space in order to upgrade and extend Kyle?

I think it is just that the know alls running the club feel that Jack now doesn't fit in with the future plans of the club whatever they may be. His recent contract(s) have only been on a yearly basis. I think that the club is expecting the forwards we will have for the next few years will be doing more of the hard stuff like tackling of the standard that Jack was providing. Jack stands out because the other guys don't do enough and not being effective and it is now up to the young guys to do it.

Hopefully the coaches will be drilling all players on tackling as their number one thing during the pre-season training next year. They will need it.

The Eels have offered Jack a further lifeline for 2 years while maybe the Dragons would only give him another year like they have for this year and he wanted longer is how I see it as well and quite possibly he knows that the Club would continue to struggle and he would have to continue to do the hard stuff while the others plod along.

That's true. With Stewart and two Couchmans, club has an abundance of JDB-like players. But I still think he would have been worthwhile keeping around due to the lack of props and the fact that right now, he's the clubs best prop even though lock is his best position.

2 with a club option for the second. So it's really just one unless Parra wants to keep him for 2 years.

There is a 10 day cooling off period RVH which would enable the Dragons to reconsider their options and put a better offer to Jack which he might accept seeing that he wants to be a one club player. You just never know. If the Club, however, doesn't put a better offer to Jack, then the Club just doesn't see him fitting into the future plans of the Dragons 2026 and beyond and that will be that with Jack.

Jack will be after as much as he can get money and contract length wise - many legal bills that he would have had to pay from 2019-2021 and need to look at the future with his young family to take care of.
Some sense spoken DD, thanks mate. Media already has Jack an Eel next year?

Still in nappies compared to what Jack offers in both ability, experience, inspiration and as mentor to our crop of young forwards, inc Stewart. My take is BOD want rid of Jack over the baggage the club carries with his assault charge. If so then a load of effing garbage as the man was acquitted, paying an UNFAIR price of missing two/half seasons for his beloved RedV. Ryles pounced when our mob left him hi and dry because he sees what Jack still offers preparing to hand him the same time he was locked out of the game to finish his career.

The cooldown is completely irrelevant for us in this case as the clubs already confirmed to members yesterday, and now media, that he won't be wearing the RedV next year. Whether he's an Eel or otherwise, they don't put out that statement if there was a chance of that changing.
Well JDB will certainly be giving the Eels good value for the money they will pay him. The players who leave the Dragons whether young or old seem in most part to play very well and some flourish. What then is missing from the Dragons that prevents the players to be what they can do better at another club and they love the change? Is it how management and support staff are better in looking after the players and training them in such a way that they have more belief in themselves to do things much better?

I read on another forum that Sloan would do much better under the coaching of Bellamy at the Storm or even Bennett at Souths. It will be interesting to see where he ends up and how he is going next year.

Chammas reporting we’ve ‘withdrawn’ from the race to sign Selwyn Cobbo

we’ve fumbled our way to the right decision, likely because Selwyn didn’t want to join unless we paid him a kings ransom
What a relief in a way!! Cobbo can be devastating when he is switched on and I guess many players are if their frame of mind is on key, but Cobbo somehow doesn't appear to me to be the right person to be part of this club. I just see him sitting in the corner of the dressing room all to himself and not feeling the vibe of the club. As you say Mailroomsgi, the club "fumbled" its way to make the right decision especially if he wants more than what we think he is worth.

Good luck to him though. I hope he sorts out his problems that he looks like he has at the moment.
