Recruitment and Retention for 2026

DCE will want more than 1 year, and a lot of money.
DCE is at the back end of his career. Yes his experience can help the young halves but we had Hunt and he did shit all. DCE could do the same for a couple of years and leave without much progress for the young ones. I think we bypass DCE, play Atkinson and LKT and have Kyle F as the utility as originally planned for in 2024 and have Reed in the Cup and use him if needed due to any injuries. We need to see how Atkinson is in our team. He might kill it and that would sort out some immediate problems in the halves. The trials and early games cannot come soon enough and with all those players who will be returning from long term injuries, we should look right as rain.

I see how the successful clubs recruit and develop juniors behind established first graders, and groom them for first grade like Melbourne has done with Tyran Wishart. I would like Saints to adopt a similar approach with Reed. As I previously mentioned, if he does progress at a rate which means we have to let either the established player (my preference is Metcalf) or Reed go, is that a bad situation to be in?
Our juniors come into a side that is always struggling, hence a lot of pressure on them. all they do is learn how to get thumped. When you come into a team that has won 8 games all season, you are not going to learn much.

100% Justadragon. But it doesn't mean it has to continue. I think it was Churchill who originally said "If history has taught us anything, the successful are those who learn from their failures an adapt." It has taken fifteen years, but I'm hopeful we have finally learnt.

I hope so George, it still remains to be seen what we have learnt.

Wish him all the best, we need guys eager to play NRL and do what it takes to get there, not figure out how much your pension is going to be at the end of a Dragons stint.

Need fast wingers? I know some aren't wanted by their current clubs but still young. Can improve from whatever shortcomings they have. Others will be in high demand. Others might have to play centre and move Holmes to wing but surely better than a 26 year-old Penrith reserve grader. I wonder if that info about his age is wrong. Why would the Dragons sign a 26 year-old perennial reserve grader?

Josh Kerr also returns to the Dragons, but their biggest target is undoubtedly Titans star Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, who is set to hit the open market come November 1. The Bulldogs and Perth Bears are also reportedly interested in his services, but The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield revealed the Red V are ready to make a big play to sign him. “I’m told St George have gone in with an absolutely massive offer. It’s going to be the richest offer in St George Illawarra history for a player,” he said on Triple M in August.

God I hope he doesn't sign. Very good player but I think very much not worth the kind of money they are talking about.
