Team Tips according to News. Ltd: Jaydn Su’A was strong in his return from injury and will likely come into the back row with Josh McGuire shifting to the bench. Zac Lomax had a night to forget against the Cowboys and could be dropped for a week to rediscover his form and focus. Mikaele Ravalawa is due back from a hamstring injury, which would see late blooming rookie Jonathon Reuben drop out despite his strong debut against the Cowboys.Team Tips: Campbell Graham has confirmed teammate Latrell Mitchell won’t play on Thursday night, according to Zac Bailey, Jason Demetriou said Mitchell was unlikely to return as he recovers from a bout of Covid. If Mitchell doesn’t feature, it’ll mean he won’t have played a game since Round 5 ahead of the Blues’ Origin II selection. “Unlikely (Latrell plays),” Demetriou said. “We’ll get a look at him on Monday and see where he’s at. He’s had Covid. First and foremost we’ve got to make sure that he’s healthy. I want to make sure he’s okay. He hasn’t run for two weeks either. I think there’s a lot of expectation, a lot of pressure on Latrell, but from us it’s a medical decision.” Mitchell trained away from the team on Monday, according to Fox Sports News’ Cody Kaye. Mitchell will likely be named in the reserves and be a chance to come into the 17 an hour before kick-off if he is deemed fit, with Kodi Nikorima shifting to the bench.

  • Feagai and Ravalawa will be the wingers.
  • Lomax won't get dropped. Shouldn't. Look for him to bounce back.
  • Not sure how Connor Mulheisen went in the NSW Cup but surely this situation with Mbye and McCullough can't continue. Mbye to survive due to his ultility value.
  • I wonder if the coach can finally understand Lawrie shouldn't be starting. Start with Molo and McGuire as props. Bring Lawrie on after 20 min and possibly leave him out there for the rest of the game.
  • Sims and Su'A to be starting backrowers. Bird will be suspended but should have gotten dropped if that wasn't the case.
  • Mitchell will probably play. If he doesn't and we once again put in an inept display, I agree with what someone said on anther thread yesterday, the heat my come down on the coach.

If Griffin goes with Mbye-Macca again, I'm giving up on him.

Lose this one, especially if they are without Mitchell, might be an idea to start thinking about next year.

I hope Mitchell plays. There will be no excuses. I see 3 options:
  1. Souths win narrowly and more of the status quo for Saints.
  2. Dragons win narrowly and more of the status quo for Saints.
  3. Souths put on a show and we possibly see another coached sacked over the weekend or even Friday afternoon.
I know I've been a staunch supporter of the coach but I've had enough. It's really not working out. His recruitment of:
  • McCullough
  • Alvaro
  • McGuire
  • Beale
Who along with Hunt are all from his career making Broncos U20s side well over a decade ago is proving to be utterly illogical! I know 2 of them are gone already but why were they signed in the first place?

Then we come to his other recruits.
  • Woods
  • Burgess
  • Mbye
We all know how that's working out.

Then we come to his team selection:
  • Lawrie starting when he played the best he's played maybe ever in the one or two games when he started on the bench.
  • McGuire starting as an edge second rower last week and in a few earlier games when specialist edge second rowers Billy Burns and Jack Gosiewski excel in the NSW Cup.
  • Sims being picked all over the pack except in by far his best position as an edge second rower.
  • Jack Bird doesn't just miss tackles but virtually steps out of the way. He did exactly that against Cronulla when Talakai ran at him and against Melbourne when NAS ran at him.
  • Macca....... Seriously. The poor guy. I know he's being payed well but he's embarrassing himself and team but still keeps getting picked.
  • JDB for a couple of games starting off the bench to make way for Sims to play lock. WTF was that all about?
Nope. I think he was a very good coach at one point but I'm afraid he's lost the plot completely. Needs to go.

My prediction is that Griffin is going to shake things up. He's going to pick Macca to start with Mbye on the bench.

Has McGuire been dropped? Can't believe Griffin would do that. He should do it and should never have signed him but it's McGuire who along with McCullough is the apple of Griffins eye.

Other than that, I'm almost lost for words by this forward pack. He picks JDB out of his best position in order to fit in Sims outside of his best position. And we knew our lightening quick superstar hooker, McCullough, wouldn't cool his heels on the bench for long.

Well that's it for me. This coach is beyond redemption for me now. Even if the Dragons towel Souffs up on Thursday, does anyone believe they are going to be competitive on a regular basis with the Macca-Mbye hooking duo? The coach does but is there anyone else?

Fairfax is reporting that everyone thinks the Dragons aging squad is in need of a massive clean-out except the coaching staff. At least we know we aren't alone.
How can the coaching staff not see it? There must be a plan. They figure several juniors are going to make it in the NRL next year but they aren't quite ready yet. Something along those lines because as we know, the club isn't being linked to any new recruits.

God help the poor idiot.
My words precisely. Agree too with Morgan Morgan. He has certainly lost the plot. JDB is one of the comp's best locks yet this drongo continues to play him as a prop. And he's still not prepared to give Muhleisen or Jaiden Hunt a crack. Should be a fine imposed on coaches that play favorites to the detriment of the club.

Good review of where we are presently positioned. It's nearly time for someone in the front office to open the door and show Griffin the way out. I can tell you from experience selecting players out of their specialist positions for no apparent reason does impact their performance

On top of his abysmal recruitment record what about the players he let go in their place.. namely McIness, Vaughan, there were others? But releasing our skipper McIness for the tortoise was his biggest brain fade.

Hmmmm Not bad players but Vaughan was well passed his best and McInnes wanted too much money. Wasn't worth it. But signing Macca BEFORE McInnes was injured was a crime even though due to the injury, it worked out.
