SUNDAY

Brisbane Broncos vs St George Illawarra Dragons 4.05pm at Suncorp Stadium

Last week’s Broncos team:

1. Te Maire Martin 2. Corey Oates 3. Kotoni Staggs 4. Brenko Lee 5. Selwyn Cobbo 6. Ezra Mam 7. Adam Reynolds 8. Corey Jensen 9. Billy Walters 10. Payne Haas 11. Kurt Capewell 12. Jordan Riki 13. Patrick Carrigan 14. Jake Turpin 15. Kobe Hetherington 16. Thomas Flegler 17. Keenan Palasia

Team Tips: Payne Haas (shoulder), Te Maire Martin (ribs) and Corey Jensen (calf) have all been ruled out after suffering injuries against the Cowboys. “Scans show that Te Maire Martin has sustained fractured rib cartilage and he will definitely miss this week’s game against the Dragons, with his return based on how the injury presents in the weeks ahead,” the Broncos said in a statement. “Corey Jensen has picked up a Grade 2 calf strain which can involve a number of weeks of rehab but knowing Corey’s dedication to his training and preparation, he’ll return as fast as possible.” TC Robati (broken arm) was injured in reserve grade alongside backrower.

Brendan Piakura (head knock). Tesi Niu (hamstring) is scheduled to return and would slot in at fullback. It bring the injury toll to six while a further four stars unavailable through Origin duties. Pete Badel, meanwhile, reports Zac Hosking the son of former Manly prop David Hosking, will make his debut.

Last week’s Dragons team:

1. Cody Ramsey 2. Mathew Feagai 3. Moses Suli 4. Zac Lomax 5. Mikaele Ravalawa 6. Talatau Amone 7. Ben Hunt 8. Jack de Belin 9. Andrew McCullough 10. Blake Lawrie 11. Jack Bird 12. Jaydn Su’A 13. Tariq Sims 14. Moses Mbye 15. Francis Molo 16. Aaron Woods 17. Michael Molo

Team Tips: Mat Feagai went off in second half with leg injury.

Bit of an exaggeration as far as the players ruled out for them. One star, a couple of fringe first graders and a couple of QLD Cup players are out.

For us, it'll be good to see Sullivan and Amone get a chance to see what they can do together.

An exaggeration but still, the injury problem the Dragons are having....... I mean, they just aren't. Is anyone in the top 30 injured at present? No excuses for Griffin this week either.

  • No surprises. As mentioned above, there was the possibility of Griffin selecting Mbye at halfback but that would have been too insane even for him.
  • So they lost their second choice fullback but got their first choice fullback back. How terrible for them.

Jack Gosiewski still can't get selected even in the reserves.

I'm just wondering, if Sullivan has a blinder, is he going to push Hunt to hooker for the remainder of the season and next season if Hunt remains at the club?

Lomax vs Staggs will be sensational. In attack Zac has been off this year, or he was until he totally messed up against the Cowboys, but nothing wrong with his defence at all. I think rival centres might be starting to fear him.

Well the time has come for Sullivan/Amone halves combination to show us if they can manage the team around the park. Bronkettes still have a formidable team . In my view the backs are evenly matched the halves unknown but Bronckettes have an advantage there although Reynolds is playing injured. In the forwards we should hold the cards here and that is where I hope we will win the game. A win here will cement our spot in the 8 with a few teams around us receiving the 2 points from their byes.

No chance whilst Griffin is coach and whilst he is on the big $$$
Agree. Unless the team completely goes to the dogs and bombs out of contention for the finals some weeks before the finals, it's a chance of happening but not otherwise.

Speaking of which, it seems Jack Gosiewski is on the outer. It's a shame. I don't think he's a better player than Bird but is a better second rower. But you know this coach has his favourites no matter how poorly they play along with those he doesn't rate no matter how well they play in the NSW Cup.

He does seem incredibly obstinate when dealing with his favourites, primarily from his glorious Broncos U20s team which put him on the map 15 years ago.

You jest. You are talking about a coach who plays favorites. He could tho have picked Mbye at half and Sullivan at #14. Now up to Bud to nail this chance by showing us firstly, he is top grade material and secondly that he can handle the main play making role. Also that he and Junior can reform the good halves combo from their Ball days.

I'm sure he wanted to pick Mbye but the assistants pushed back explaining it's utterly mental.

Can't wait to see what this combo will produce in attack its the defensive abilities that will come under fire from the bronkettes pack
