Round 23 v Gold Coast Titans

Who will be running straight at either Amone or Hunt
Then the big dude will have a field day.

These two need to do what the halves of a bygone era such as Peter Sterling did to bring down the big boppers of the day. Wait till the last moment then wrap both arms around the bootlaces. They go down like a ton of bricks. Amone, tho a rather solid guy and the smaller Hunt, would be far more effective doing that than than trying for a rib tickler. Leave that for those like JDB who have the technique

Fifita is another example of how much he depends upon the real engine room making those hard metres giving him a chance to wind up last year they did this year not so much.

In the second half, he:s been one of the best.
That is generous. If correct it is despite being starved of the ball. Even on those rare occasions when we find sosme backline space it is invariably on opposite side to Lomax. Whenever he gets any ball invariably there is no where for him to go. When there is space on his side he can be unlucky as had been the case with those two Amone try assist cut outs that bypassed guess who, Zack Lomax.

Don't get me wrong. The whole team has been really poor. Just in the second half of the season a few, notably JDB, Lawrie, Hunt and Lomax haven't been so bad. I know the jury is out on Hunt. As an individual he's been very good. As a playmaker, not so sure.

Big call made by Hook. Burns replaced with the young, blockbusting second rower, Jayden Sullivan.o_O
He can still be picked its only his 8th game so no bonus payments required. He will most probably use him to replace McCullough. It would be interesting to see if Hunt is moved to dummy half or Sullivan

All the top 30 + development players can be picked. So I think it's only Suli, Rava and maybe Max Feagai who are unavailable. The coach thinks this is the best team he has at his disposal.

My personal view is simply this it is important to have two or three option runners in each move. They distract the defence from the real purpose of the attack and allow your playmaker to adjust the move if he sees the defence change. This is basic training technique . How many players in our team have you seen during the season do this? A playmaker is only as good as his team mates allowing him the time and space to create. Our teams attacking structures off the ball has been non existent hence 11th.

Because of the salary cap freeze no player outside the 17 will be able to be selected for 1sts more than 9 games this season. That has hurt us greatly in my view

What 17? There is no 17 according to the cap. Only 30 and development players.

Seriously? Unless things have changed since my days this is how all clubs structure their playing roster. It is based upon your clubs positional and players ratings. So 1- 5 would be your highest paid players filling in the most important positions. Then 6 - 13, then your reserves 14 - 17. This is the make-up of your squad. 18 - 22 would be fringe players who could be considered to fill the roles of 14 - 17. Anyone outside that so 23 - 30 although contracted would not play 1sts unless you had an injury or suspension crisis. That is the way it works. So players are paid according to their position 1 - 30. 18 - 30 would have bonus payments written into their contracts. So the players I am referring to would include:
Sloan, Fuimaono, Burns, Gosiewski, Hunt, Sullivan, Ford, M Molo. I would be surprised if any of those I have named have played 9 or more games in 1sts this season simply because not that they are not good enough but because of the reason I have stated. Hence no mass changes to our starting 17.

Things have changed since your day. Salary cap rule is that 30 players are available for first grade.

I am aware but this is the real life of how things work. Check to see if any of those players I have named have played 9 or more. If I'm wrong I apologise but I'm not wrong.

Unlike you I check my facts
Sloan - 6
J Hunt - 5
Sullivan - 7
Fuimaono - 6
Gosiewski - 6
Burns - 4
Ford - 5
M Molo - 8

I rest my air tight case, your honour
Ok Your Honour. Coach is picking this 17 because of salary cap constraints, not because he's an idiot. The rest of the 30 and development players aren't available. Not sure why the NRL hasn't busted the club for this but I guess we are just lucky.

Coach is definitely not an idiot. It's easy for us to be sitting in the bleaches commenting on how poor the team has been this year once again. The players have to take responsibility for their performances. My personal opinion is that because of the salary constraints there has been no real pressure to retain your spot no matter how poor you have been. As you rightly point out 30 contracted players but reality is 22 - 30 are reserve grade players and believe me if we breached our salary cap which we have done previously the nrl would be all over us again.

If only 22 players were available for selection, not 30 minus injured players, the club would be in breach of the salary cap. Simple as that.

Your missing the point but so be it. 30 players are available but when you are working out your actual starting 17 + reserves that's where all your cap goes. So if you stuff up your money you in reality stuff up your ability to use all 30 contracted players. Minimum avg salary for top 30 is $100,000 covering players 26- 30 only, and up from there, so basic maths would deduce approx $1m of your salary cap is spent on reserves and development players. As you have seen lately, we have 4 players who take up over $3.1m of the $9.4m so 5 - 21 divy up the remaining $5.3m that leaves very little room to move if you have to pay bonuses.
