I admit being sports mad. How about the rest of you.
Here is a thread to test your sporting knowledge.

I will start the ball rolling:

Where was the first modern Olympic Games held.

Which five nations have attended every Olympics.

Athens
Sweden, Australia?, Finland, Austria, India?

Scratch Finland. It hasn't been a country for the entire period of the modern Olympics. I presume the same is true of Austria. I'm not sure about India. I think it didn't become an independent country until after WW2.

Sweden and Australia are solid guesses.

So apart from Sweden and Australia, who are your other 2 picks?

Yes France, Australia, Switzerland, Britain. The obvious one was Greece.

Someone else.
Switzerland! Of course. Should have guessed that. To be honest, I'm surprised about Greece. Between being completely annexed, then independence, wars, military coups, mass riots and etc. I thought it would have missed one or two.

Surprised about Britain as well. Thought USA would have forbade them to go to the Moscow Olympics.

Australia too. Tho some of our individual athletes pulled out from memory.

I guess as the nation that nurtured both the ancient and modern Olympics, they felt a deep responsibility to attend all games despite what turmoil they were having.

At the time, I think Australia would have been too small and too far away to get much attention. Specially given Britain refused to pull out.

Can I try this?
  • True or False: In the Finnish Wife Carrying Competition men’s race, where the husband has to carry his wife the length of the course, the winner gets the lady’s weight in reindeer meat.
  • Which US sportsstar said ‘I’ve never lost a game I just ran out of time’?
  • Mark Twain is commonly said to have described what sport as “A good walk, spoiled”?
  • What nickname is given to the New Zealand men’s basketball team?
  • Which sport has a finishing line that isn’t crossed?
