We have 27 contracted including Amone who won't be playing so we should get some salary relief, how much who knows so we have 1.5m to spend on 3 spots. If we could only snaffle two more decent props and a speedy back but I'm not sure anyone off contract would be interested in us
I think they are also planning to fill Ramsey's spot.

Anyone know what's going on with the search for a new CEO? I heard David Gallops name mentioned. I hate how he punished Brett Stewart before he had his day in court. That is a crime in and of itself unless the player has admitted to his guilt. But he must have a lot of high up connections and is obviously a smart operator.

What I want to know whether the rumours of Board allowing Hunt to negotiate early, without Flanno's involvement or acceptance are true? If so, there's a bit of disharmony between the two 'camps'.

Where did you hear that? I think it's more likely Flanno has told Hunt he is free to go without telling the board. I don't think either is likely but that is more likely.

This confirms it. There needs to be an intervention from the front office. It's understand able Flanno sees Kyle as a superstar and one of the best, if not the best player in the competition. That's why someone from above needs to intervene.
Around this time last year, Flanno started talking about how Lomax' stats placed him well down the order of the best centres. Well how about Kyle's stats there Shane? Across his entire career at all 4 clubs or just last year. Take your pick. Where do his stats place him among the best halfbacks or 5/8s?

DRAGONS CEO HIT LIST

Brent Read

St George Illawarra chair Andrew Lancaster has cast the net far and wide as he sizes up potential candidates to take over as the Dragons’ chief executive next year.

Newcastle head of football Peter Parr was spoken to early in the process but Sunday Sesh understands he is among a host of potential candidates Lancaster has talked to as he finalises options to replace Ryan Webb when he leaves in coming months.

It is understood former Sydney Roosters and South Sydney chief executive John Lee, now involved with the Queensland government, has been identified as a potential contender for the post, along with Supercars chief operating officer Tim Watsford, a former employee of the NRL.

Tristan Hay, highly respected in rugby league circles for his work at the NRL both as an employee and a consultant, has been sounded out, along with another former NRL executive, Jonnie Stewart.

Hay, who has been helping Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga at the Pacific Championships, commands immense respect at Rugby League Central and was brought in last year by NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo to help the game prepare for Las Vegas.

Likewise, Stewart was well regarded at Rugby League Central but left to pursue business interests in the private sphere. Of late, he has been helping Western Australia in its bid to win an NRL licence.

Former St George Illawarra halfback Matt Rodwell is also in contention, having gone close to landing the job last time it was available. The Dragons are expected to form a shortlist for the position next month.

I think some people might make too much of these centres of excellence. Roosters haven't fared badly with their cheap centre, Melbourne have fared very well without and Gold Coast hasn't done well with their centre even though they were equal first to have one. Then again, Penrith were the other equal first to have one and we know how that has turned out.....
  • Penrith $22 million in 2016
  • Titans $25 million in 2016
  • Broncos $27 million in 2018
  • Raiders $19 million in 2020
  • Cowboys $40 million in 2021
  • Tigers $75 million in 2022
  • Sea Eagles $33 million in 2022
  • Knights $23 million in 2022
  • Roosters $13 million in 2023
  • Rabbitohs $26 million in 2023
  • Eels $53 million to be opened in 2025
  • Bulldogs $60 million to be opened in December 2026
  • Dragons $60 million to be opened in 2026
Sharks, Dolphins, Storm and Warriors do not have a high performance centre.

Should make the club an easier sell for new recruits.

But nothing will compare with winning. I like the way the team is taking shape for this year but based on their careers thus far, I'm worried about the Illias-Flanagan halves combo. Apart from that, I think the team is very competitive right across the park. Just my views.

Also need that rugby winger to come good or wingers will be an issue as well.

We have like 6 players fighting for wing spots as it is, that's the least of our issues.
Who are the six? Feagai? Been there, done that. Didn't work out. CT? I think he's ok just far too slow to be a good winger. Sloan? I hope he goes well but worried about him being too small. Finau? Untested but I think he goes well in reserve grade so might make the step up. Lawson? Untested but think he might turn out good. Rava? He's on the outer. Wouldn't surprise me if Flanno has put a pen through his name.

Of those Lawson and Finau would be my pick but both untested.

ooh so cryptic.. could he be gone.. or could he have turned the corner with a new years resolution.. we will have to wait and see!
Hopefully gone, he hasn’t improved at all since we got him and honestly I reckon he doesn’t know the rules still. Get rid because we can get much better value for money than what he’s producing

For some of teams like Roosters, Souths and Melbourne, it probably doesn't make a huge difference. But I think it will be really good for a lot of the young players. Like Flegg and SG Ball age group. Have them training in world class facilities will help their development and keep them happy. Or happier than they otherwise would've been.

Sloan and CT will likely get the first nod you would assume with Finau hot on the heels ready to pounce at any opportunity. Yes Fegai is another and I think Ravas made it pretty clear he will be staying (unless something drastic changes) plus Lawson. You also forgot your favourite player Corey who will be wanting to push for any backline spot available as the 6th. Point is there's heaps of competition and cover for the backline which is good so we aren't reliant on Lawson being some immediate miracle buy at all.

Yup, I still do think we can get away with the halves pairing provided we have enough go forward helping Cookie and Liddle with the quick ruck plays. Hoping the couchies have big seasons and some of the young fellas develope nicely, should be good to watch.

He's ok but unless Dragons have some serious speed in the backline especially on the wings, not going to be among the top teams. He might be much better at centre if Suli or Holmes is injured. Wingers will also be ok if 2 of Sloan, Lawson, Finau prove to be good wingers. Otherwise, I think it will be a problem.
