Yup, I still do think we can get away with the halves pairing provided we have enough go forward helping Cookie and Liddle with the quick ruck plays. Hoping the couchies have big seasons and some of the young fellas develope nicely, should be good to watch.
💯 I know Kyle had a hard time at the Bullgrubs but what a rubbish forward pack he was playing behind! Last years forward pack for the Dragons wasn't anything to write home about either. Though I still think he has a good skill-set for a hooker. I'm not sure what the problem with Illias was.

Don't forget it goes both ways. If forwards go well, halves need to set up a lot of tries. I hope Ilias has a good kicking game.

I will give Hunt credit for 2 things. His running game close to the line and his long kicking.

I had forgotten all about the club still not having a CEO!

EX-NRL BOSS IN DRAGONS DEN

Another familiar name has emerged in the race to become the new chief executive of St George Illawarra.

The Dragons have kept their cards close to their chest when it comes to finding a replacement for departing CEO Ryan Webb, although Sport Confidential can reveal that former NRL chief executive Shane Mattiske’s name has been mentioned as a candidate.

Mattiske recently finished up as executive chairman of the New Zealand Jets and spent nine months at the helm of the NRL.

Sounds like he would be a solid pick with lots of contacts in the right places.

Good question. WTF do they do? They report to the board but does that mean the board decides if a coach or player should be sacked? Maybe they do sales quite a lot but not sure what he would sell the NRL doesn't already. Maybe hire people further down the trough than head coach if the board decides that. Is it more like the GM job the sneaky fuk Phil Gould does at the Grubs?

AI says:
CEOs of NRL (National Rugby League) clubs in Australia and New Zealand oversee the overall operations and strategic direction of their clubs. Their responsibilities include managing finances, ensuring compliance with NRL regulations, and driving commercial growth through sponsorships, partnerships, and membership programs. They work closely with coaching staff to support team performance and player development while fostering a strong club culture. CEOs also engage with fans, stakeholders, and the media to promote the club’s brand and community initiatives. Additionally, they collaborate with the NRL on league-wide strategies and represent their club in key decision-making processes. Their role is pivotal in balancing on-field success with off-field sustainability, ensuring the club remains competitive and financially viable in a highly competitive sports landscape.

RED V REVIVAL

A room full of heavy hitters from sport stars to high-flying business people came together to help launch an intimate but passionate support-led group to help St George Illawarra flourish.
The likes of Mark Taylor, Graham Richardson and Warren Livingstone were on-hand for the inaugural lunch at Woolloomooloo Bay on Thursday afternoon. They were joined by Dragons coach Shane Flanagan, chairman Andrew Lancaster and long-term board member Peter Doust.
The idea is the brain child of former Channel 9 and 2GB star Chris O’Keefe and Academy Brand founder Anthony Pitt – who are two of the most connected but ardent Dragons fans.
“This group is about unashamedly asserting the Dragons as the number one club in the NRL,” O’Keefe said. “It’s as simple as that. We have a huge number of powerful and successful people that are passionate Dragons supporters and we want to unlock their networks and talent to support the club and its players in every way.

“Businesses who partner with St George Illawarra will be guaranteed mutual success and our club can leverage these networks of this group however they need to.
“We have a great foundation to build from but we can take it to the next level. Anthony Pitt, Jason Nightingale, a club legend and commercial force in his own right and myself have a pretty simple vision for this; Not only do we want to win premierships, but we want to entrench the Dragons as a formidable and sustainable commercial force too.”
The group will act as a major networking opportunity for sponsors and mentorship for St George Illawarra players and staff.
“In business and politics no single person ever has all the answers, so leaning on expertise from all walks of life will only enhance the success of the Dragons,” O’Keefe said. “The chairman Andrew Lancaster has been instrumental in this and the board can certainly see the value of a group like this.”

Love it, these are the types of setups that gives us an edge with recruitment. Post career networking is massive part of sports landscape now, all the top organisation have a great network setup.
