Imagine if some of our players showed the same intestinal fortitude as RockyLike in Rocky 2—when Adrian comes out of a coma and the baby is fine. Adrian says to Rocky, “There’s one thing I want you to do….,Win !”
Very harsh and I disagreeIn the Fox sport pre-game show they said his partner had given birth that morning. Is it true? I don't know but if it is, provided that the health of the mother and baby was ok, I find it outrageous. Couldn't he have left them for a few hours? He has the rest of his life with them if he chooses. Why would a few hours hurt?
Of course family comes first but if there was no medical complications and mother and baby were healthy, why did he need to be around them? A man has obligations to put food on the table for the mother and baby.
If it's true the baby was born early Saturday morning and both the mother and baby were in good health, good luck putting food on the table I just hope the Dragons don't assist him in that one iota after his present contract is finished.
Even jodragon40 is piling in on me over this. Brings back memories.Way, way too harsh and quite honestly a ridiculous statement. It's the birth of his kid for christ sake, this is such outdated utter rubbish. The dad doesn't need to be there cause he "needs to put food on the table", and "what can he do being there anyway" what is this the bloody 60s? C'mon mate surely not.
Carers and parental leave exist and are mandated for good reason, not just for the mum, and he can take as long as he chooses. At the end of the day it's a game of footy, a job, and nothing more. He has absolutely every right to (and most definitely should be) putting his family first.
Side note: Imagine the backlash if the club didnt support him!? He and the club made the right decision, regardless of result.
Taking a guide out of their efforts last week I don't think we can beat them. That game against the Roosters v ours against the Eels are chalk and cheese to me. The Raiders pack even minus Whitehead is on paper much stronger than ours and I don't like Bird in the centres v Timoko who can be a handful especially with room to move. They will play us down the middle of the park and I note both their bookends will be starting so they have telegraphed their intentions. If we stand back and wait for them in the defensive line we will pay a high price. If Lawrie has another contract lined up, this could be a farewell game.. but given nothing is announced.. I think Flanno will pick what he feels is the best side.. RyanC is a big out.. id play Tonga if hes good after his HIA, Stewart I think is a work in progress and this is a big pack.
They could easily play 4 forwards also.. Connor doesnt bring a whole lot as a utility anyway.
As far back as in my day, players were not expected to play under these circumstances, they did have a choice . If they chose not to play no penalty was enforced. I have said that half the battle even back then was not only being physically fit enough to play 1st but also mentally tough enough. I would suggest that his mind wouldn't have been on the job if he played last week. Just my personal views.Even jodragon40 is piling in on me over this. Brings back memories.
Maybe my whole "breadwinner" thing is a bit old fashioned and of course the club was right to give him the option. But seriously, for the first day or two he can only look at the baby behind a big window.
Pretty sure it was Cam Smith several years ago had a big game on. Think it might have been Origin. His wife was expecting any moment. He chose to play and then head straight to the hospital.
As far as I know, Liddle's wife gave birth that morning. He had ample time to hold his wifes hand, hold the baby, look at it in the postnatal ward from behind the glass then go to the game.
That's the way I see it anyway.
I mean we can beat them of course.. that big game panic thing we have been doing.. balls going to ground.. if we start like a normal NRL side we will be in the contest.. just be interesting to see if we can stay up, or if the raiders stay up like they have done for the last 2 games.. normally teams fall away when pushed once they are out of finals contention... which tbf is both sides here.Taking a guide out of their efforts last week I don't think we can beat them. We did need him but I disagree. Would we even be having this conversation if we had won? I think not. Family comes 1st always has always will. Just my personal view.It is all new age stuff the man has to be there at the birth ! But the birth went ok get a few hours sleep and off to the game ! We needed him !
No team can show defensive line speed for extended periods of time due to the speed of the game. The trick is to show that speed when the game is not in your favour. Sitting back when a opponent is making 50m consistently every set v 30m cannot be allowed to go unanswered, we all saw what happened last week when we failed to rise to that challenge.I mean we can beat them of course.. that big game panic thing we have been doing.. balls going to ground.. if we start like a normal NRL side we will be in the contest.. just be interesting to see if we can stay up, or if the raiders stay up like they have done for the last 2 games.. normally teams fall away when pushed once they are out of finals contention... which tbf is both sides here.
That defensive line thing is a strange one, I noticed it last week, we must have trained for it .. maybe when were on the back foot to conserve energy or something.
AgreeMy only comment on Lids
We don't know the full story, what if the labour was over 12 hours and he had no sleep, or there were complications in the birth or a premature birth.
What would you say if Lids played had a shocker and it cane out he had no sleep the night before the game.
O my God how long has it been since you had a kid. Baby's stay right next to the mother not in postnatal wards and has been that way for years. LolEven jodragon40 is piling in on me over this. Brings back memories.

If there were complications or if he was up all night not getting sleep and labor went into late in the morning, not playing was correct. My only comment on Lids

Like Liddell, but he is not Cameron Smith. He would not have turned that game around.Way, way too harsh and quite honestly a ridiculous statement. this is the extended reserves.very unlikely but hope either loko or stewart get a debut. it would be a nice way to end the season.

As of 2016 that was still the case according to a Google search."But seriously, for the first day or two he can only look at the baby behind a big window."
Lol how old are you?
You are way out of touch.
