Last Round: St George Illawarra vs Canberra

The coach will pick his mate Bird perhaps at 5/8 but hopefully not we need to give LKT a start.
Mate he has surprised us all and flicked Bird from any play making role and given the kid his debut. Loko Jr is on the extended bench, like him to also debut too perhaps late against tiring players.

They would say "he should have stayed and looked at the baby behind the big window" :p
Is she had the baby early in the morning, as Fox reported, and the baby and mother were in good health, as they didn't mention but I suspect would've if it wasn't the case, you tell me. Why do you think he didn't play. I bet for big games, the players at the best clubs would play every day of the week and twice on Sat.

As of 2016 that was still the case according to a Google search.

I think the last time I saw it in person was when my younger sibling was born.
Considering my all my family, relatives, friends who have had babies in various hospitals in Sydney from the 90's till around 2010, i have never seeing that, maybe ask Siri instead...

Give it a rest mate. Game has been played, in any case Jake may not have had his mind on footy and had a shocker anyway.

Its a personal thing for Liddle, there is more to life than 1 game of footy, get over it, he doesn't need to play, he may not have been in the right mental state to play, maybe his wife asked him to stay, maybe there was another issue that he doesnt have to tell the media or explain to you or any other fan, he isn't the first who has done it and wont be the last

Update. There are 2 distinct styles in Australia to this day. Rooming in with the baby and traditional nursery room I'm talking about.

He doesn't have to explain himself and if there wasn't an issue and baby did arrive early in the morning, no doubt he won't. But fans don't have to support his decision either.

Doesn't have to but should explain himself. If he says what is probably true, something like:

I was up all night. It was very stressful and in the morning when the baby was delivered, I wasn't in the right mental state. I called Flanno and we decided I wouldn't play.

If he did that I would understand. Right now as far as I know, he just wanted to have a good rest and not be bothered by a pesky thing like a must-win game.

If Eisenhuth is going for sure and maybe Blocka as well, it makes sense Flanno would give them one final game. Otherwise should've picked Stewart and Pasifiki Tonga.

It's a private matter, has absolutely nothing to do with the fans, have you ever noticed on the Dragons website, when they announce the team on Tuesday, they also list the players unavailable, personal reasons are listed, because its none of your business or mine, unless the PLAYER chooses to announce the reason, and the club will not publish it because its a private matter.
Your looking to blame someone for our loss, look on the field at the other 17 players..
  • Kimberley Hunt (personal, Round 6)

Ok. The one final thing I want to say on the issue is a lot of posters are saying he chose his family over a game of footy. I just don't understand why he had to make a choice. Why not both?

That is just the way I see it but I'm not privy to what went on.

I'm not blaming him for the loss. Just seems to me, but let me refer to the above paragraph again, a player in club which instill a winning culture would have played unless there were complications.

I'm astounded that this was even brought up in the first place, let alone still being discussed.

It's a personal, exciting and also very stressful time for him. He doesn't need to justify it, he doesn't need to "be a man and put food on the table", and he sure as shit doesn't need to bloody explain himself to anyone.

Family should always be put first, no matter how good or important you are at your job, it's just a job. If you think otherwise I'm sorry but your priorities are just plain wrong, that thinking died off decades ago (or so I thought). Its his right and his choice to make so just move on from this rubbish already.

This is the issue, that people don't know the full story, so they make up scenarios, others read it and go with that as well and start blowing up about it.
Why did he choose his family over a game of footy, maybe he didn't have a choice, maybe he did, but we don't know.
Wonder if people would be saying the same thing if we had won that game or is it only an issue when we lose..

None of this in any way contradicts my comment. I specifically asked why it had to be a choice between family and the game. I am sure there is a reason. I wish he would explain it even though he has no obligation.

I didn't mean for it to be so controversial. Not a big deal for me. I was just agreeing with some other posters.

But for the third time, I don't know why it had to be a choice between family and the game. Like asking if you want a meat pie or sausage roll. There is plenty to go around. Take both even though it might be a bit more than you planned on.

But again, that is as much as I know. All I heard was that his wife gave birth early that morning. Then I read here she gave birth in the early afternoon. So I just don't know.

This is a good topic for the offseason in another thread.

As for the game, there are so many young forwards on the cusp of first grade I get mixed up. Is Hamish Stewart the tall, athletic second rower?

Can we perhaps stop talking about the situation with Lids? This is the thread for our final game of the season. How about we enjoy our final lead up of the year and leave the private matters to the players and the club.

A bit disappointed we didn't see Dylan Egan in first grade this year but he's in the top 30 next year so...... I wonder is he going to concentrate on getting bigger and being a middle forward or staying about the weight he is now and concentrate on getting a bit faster. As much as that can be trained.
