Recruitment and Retention for 2023

The behavior of Webb, Young and Griffin is outright boorish! Of course they want out. The club royally screwed up by recruiting highly paid but under performing imports in their place. So let them go you fucks! And face the music when they excel elsewhere!
I do believe in the eyes of our excellent coach, Ben Hunt, Macca and McGurie are among the greatest ever players to play the game. He has lost his mind but that's why Craig Young is above him. It should be Craig Young's job to overrule Griffin.

How sad to see a club legend become so weak, self-serving and pathetic.

Yet more platitudes coming from our chairman. Griffin will see out his contract because, "we signed him so have to back him". That is no more than self interest to save egg on face of our recruiters which of course are employed by the FO. Never mind that Griffin's two year record is abysmal.
Young reiterated that Sullivan and Sloan wont be given a release making it clear the pair are in the clubs future plans. Sullivan has to "roll up his sleeves and get on with learning from Ben Hunt".
Well this I do agree with. You kids have to learn to walk before you can run if you plan on a long career with the team of your choice.
Young does admit tho that the club "has a culture crisis" given the poor turn out for the end of season presentation as his reason. There are other reasons too Albert, which you wont admit to.

And he himself has been a problem ...... so give yourself an uppercut and do something about it ......

Unbelievable. 2 years of abject failure and shockingly bad recruitment and retention decisions isn't enough. I think Dragons might be the only club to let this fly. Maybe Wests Tigers would as well but that's it!

The epitome of a losing culture.

Disagree. Wests Tigers kept McGuire on for too long but other than him, as far as I know, they didn't waste time sacking failing coaches.

I'd like to hear what the front office has other clubs has to say about the Dragons front office. I think they must shake their heads and laugh.

So Sullivan of course wants out but the CEO insists he has to learn from Hunt for 3 more year on top the two he's already been leaning. How much does Hunt have to teach and why haven't we seen it after 5 years? And of course the kicker is, Sully is going to be on very significant money to run around in the NSW Cup, "leaning".

Why employ a coach without people skills. We did. Instead of luring players here Hook is forcing them away. Sullivan, S'ua, Lawrie, Sloan made an unhappy dressing room due to his poor coaching now George Burgess has added to Griffins woeful resume by going public, " the coach did not back me". All of this discontent due to one man and still FO wants him for a third season. Well George, our only big bopper, did not and asked for a release.

We may still lose Sully but his 'three amigo' mate Tyrell Sloan wont be joining him. All the kid wanted was some love. Said the same, as when at that age all they need to hear is that the club he has played his entire junior career for, wants him for his senior one too.

They have released Burgess and signed another fringe first grader. Another reject from the wooden spooners. WTF is wrong with these people???
Seems George was given his marching orders some time ago when we started snooping around Musgrove. Obviously this is the 'big' signing' FO meant.. maybe big in size but hardly talent if he is a wooden spoon reject. Sneaky too as we expected this to be an addition to our pack not a swap for our biggest forward.

I hate the idea of releasing Sullivan but it has to be done. I had high hopes in Sullivan. I thought the stars were aligning perfectly. Hunt coming to the end of his career just at the right time to give Sully ample time prepare himself for the NRL every week. I thought next year Hunt would transition to hooker as the season went on to make way for Sully. Hunt would probably get 2 more years on much less money at a club really struggling for a halfback or hooker. It all made too much sense for the front office and the *`+}@#& coach who'll sabotage his own career for his superstar Broncos U20s team from 16 years ago!

Love it. Trouble is he has not sabotaged his career, otherwise he'd have been flicked end of last season and with a year still to run. That is making a big statement against future employment elsewhere. Unless it is north of the border where he'll be welcomed with open arms.

People skills has a lot to do with coaching , thats what Bennett has ..... He gets the best out of players as he treats them individually , getting them to perform at their best then as a team of players playing for a coach that believes in them ....... Complete opposite to Hook ...... No People skills you go nowhere in any industry when you are the top dog .....

If truth be known Burgess was flicked because he is facing an unseemly conduct charge and was not seen as a long term prospect as JDB was. If the case our FO was not being honest with him by not telling him they'd back him as a contracted player.

As far as I can see, if Burgess is guilty, he is facing a fine and some community service. And the wrath of his wife. If JDB was guilty of all charges, which admittedly was extremely unlikely even given the political nature of the charges and corrupt cops, he was facing life in prison.

Complementing the squad's depth in the forwards was a key contributor to Musgrove's signing, according to Dragons general manager of football, Ben Haran.
"Zane is an established NRL player with a strong physical presence and will be a great addition to our forward pack," Haran said.

Total bull crap Haran. How is a bloke with 62 NRL games in 6 years going to be a "great addition" to our pack. Also seems he is a "strong physical presence" for no more than 10 games a season then he goes walkabout.

Not talking about the two charges.. more the need the club had for the respective player.

Cheer up please you two. There are a few things to be optimistic about. Or at least not so pessimistic.
  • If Hunt is on around 700k in the salary cap and another 100 or 150k in third party deals, it's a bargain for the club. Good (but not great) halfbacks cost a lot these days. I haven't seen anyone deny Hunt is "good". I also haven't seen anyone say he's "great".
  • If Sullivan is half as good as we think, he's going to demand a huge upgrade after 1 season wherever he ends up. So at least keeping Hunt, we aren't losing a lot of money in the salary cap.
  • Toward the end of last season, Stewart pushed Sloan to the wing in NSW Cup and excelled. Sloan might be third choice fullback at present. (Ramsey > Stewart > Sloan, not Mbye:mad:)
  • Over the last few years, massively overpaid Norman and Sims are off the books and massively overpaid Hunt is on less pay from 2024.
  • The cricket 20-20 World Cup is on soon. That's going to be good!
Having said that, if they sign another forward journeyman, I might completely flip out.
If I can quote myself from around 2 weeks, I said if they sign another journeyman forward, I might completely flip out.

So they sign another reject forward from the wooden-spoon team. Make that 2 now! But at least in this case, it was as a replacement for another of Griffin-Young's utterly failed recruits. So I'm not completely flipping out, just halfway there.

I wonder if jodragon40 jodragon40 has any idea what is going on. Are they trying to ensure a competitive NSW Cup team?

My views have always been that if you sign an old school coach like Griffin these types of coaches demand all the power. They care very little about any figurehead assistant coaches the front office or anyone else apart from the owners. His contract would have had such a clause of non interference written into it. This type of coach demands loyalty and obedience. He is on $450k next season, our dire predicament with salary cap issues means in reality the last thing the head office wants to do is pay him out. I went through something similar in the 90s and I can tell you at my level it took the team and club 3 yrs to recover, hence my continual highlighting of 2025 as being our next season that we will make the 8 and be competitive. It's so very sad.
