Recruitment and Retention for 2023

For many, many years now, St George RLFC have invested time and money developing juniors from the Illawarra Region. Like Cronulla, they were part of our official catchment area. For whatever reason, there was a split right at the same time that St George ended their magnificent run of 11 consecutive GF wins in a row.

This I did not know. Did any of you?

Also hearing the snail will play out his last season. And guess what we have allbut secured Tigers reject Jacob Liddle for 2024. I just chundered my breakfast. Goes from bad to worse.
If you think about it, Liddle was good enough to relegate Hook's star recruit Mbye to the bench at the Tigers so he must be good🥴!

There is simply no way Macca can go around in first grade again.
He will you know if Griffin has anything to do with it. This club is loathe to blood any junior forwards for some reason. They'd rather poach unwanted imports on the cheap. Dead set for the same money we will probably pay Liddle we could pay say Josh Coric/Jackson Sherab or Connor Muhleisen/Sam Hooper..

I borrowed this from LU member Possum. Hope that is permitted Eric Eric.
Explains in detail about the joint venture and probably why this club is in crisis.

For many, many years now, St George RLFC have invested time and money developing juniors from the Illawarra Region. Like Cronulla, they were part of our official catchment area. For whatever reason, there was a split right at the same time that St George ended their magnificent run of 11 consecutive GF wins in a row.

It was most convenient for the NRL to reduce the size of the NRL competition after the Super League war and at the time Illawarra was struggling financially and so there was an agreement to run a joint venture and call the team St George Illawarra. At the time the Gordons and WIN were financial backers of both St Gorge and Illawarra teams.

Illawarra was struggling and could not meet their commitments as agreed to in their deal with St George, so the joint venture borrowed the shortfall in order to remain compliant with the NRL. In addition to this, the Illawarra Club borrowed heavily from the Gordons and WIN to keep afloat.

In the end, the Gordons / WIN obtained half ownership by receiving cash to settle the Illawarra debt to St George / NRL and receiving forgiveness of the Gorgons / WIN debt.

It seems to me that, without this arrangement, Illawarra would have most likely been bankrupted and the Gorons / WIN debt would not have been paid, it would have become a loss for Gordons / WIN0

Enter the power brokers Craig Young and Peter Doust who devised a plan to grant Gordons / WIN half of the shares of SGI on repayment of the NRL loan and forgiveness of the Illawarra debt. The total being about 10m dollars.

Now if St George would have instead called in the loan and sent Illawarra bankrupt:
1. The Gordons / WIN would have lost about 5m dollars.
2. St George would have gained 11m dollars from the then-highest bidder.

So now, what did Gordons / WIN promise the two power brokers that arranged this generous deal? Well God only knows but to me iI appears likely that:
Mary was happy
Ian Millward was happy
Craig Young is happy
Peter Doust is happy
Dean Young is about to be happy
Of course as long as that person doesn't mind. something to do with copyright.

This is a surrealistic nightmare.

Stinks of bribes happening to me.

He's also good enough to make the NSW Cup team of the wooden spoon team....
Maybe they have a gun NSW Cup team.
Dolphins have "never spoken to Su'A and his name has never been discussed" - Brent Read/ The Australian.. This was posted Wednesday on Twitter.
These rumors of a mass exodus of players may be just a concerted act by persons unknown to steer prospective players away from out club and smear the Dragons name. Why and who is doing it. I joked earlier that it may be the Dolphins PA people. Maybe it is.
It would be against the rules for them to officially speak to him without Dragons permission. Where there's smoke, there's fire. Lets see how things play out over the next few weeks.

I agree. No other coach in the competition would even consider him but to Hook, he's the second best player in the competition after Ben Hunt.

All that talk about McCullogh retiring is just that.. talk. Go the snail. So why are we going hell for leather in trying to bring a hooker here. Looking at three to my knowledge, Robson, Liddle and Turpin.. another Broncos reject. Above all we need a decent big bopper prop. More misery guys in 2023.

Is this twitter rumours or something more concrete? Because I simply can't comprehend the logic of it. If Melbourne had a good, young hooker stuck behind Grant, I could understand it but Liddle and Turpin? WTF are we going to do with them? He already recruited Mbye on big money. Where does he plan to use Mbye?

The club is crying poor mouth but if we crunch the numbers using common sense we can find the coin to buy at least three rep standard players come Nov 1. There is a theory out there that we can pay for any of these new buys with a mixture of salary and TPA. Other clubs do it. And it is legal. With Sims and Moose already gone and if S'ua and Macca leave too plus other likelies in Burns, Gossie, Burgess, Ford, Fuimono, Moga, Kerr and Poasa we can save a cool $4m app. of cap money. This is feasible, more so now the S C has been raised to $10.5 m for season '23.

That fits the bills perfectly for the three rep standard players we should be chasing. Doubts about Lodge tho. Hearing he is close to Roosters retension. Payne Haas, yes or David Fifita, perhaps.
And Lodge's last 2 clubs paid a lot of money to get rid of him. Maybe the rumours about his 'difficult' personality and effect on team culture are correct.

Then my friend he is not the sort of player this club needs. We have had our fair share of trouble makers over the years. Dont want any more.
