Recruitment and Retention for 2025

Not the worst result having him on the books for next year. Give the club one more year to find a replacement.
Getting Rava and Blocka out is the main issue now. Then can think about moving on Hunt. When there are plenty of spots available to sign a utility Like Douhi or Gutherson.

Dave I agree , but just and I know its a risk , if the guy is over his injury , injuries he would be a good pickup ....... Lets put it this way would you take him if he had not got injured last season ? I'm thinking if Pap from the Storm can get over 2 bad injuries this guy may do the same ........Surely he wouldn't be on big money ....... So would I take a chance with him , I say yes ........

Pap isn't over his injuries, he played the GF with an injury. Rumours are Storm might push him out. I'm happy to risk a roster spot on someone with legitimate upside but Douehi isn't that player. Again, he was injured last season too. After the year we've had with our depth players being frequently injured, I wouldn't take a punt on Doeuhi.

Never know what happens in RL, look at the Ezra Mam situation where he should be punted from the club & hopefully deregistered from the NRL. That opens up a door for Hunt. Anyway like Just a Mug suggested, there's unlikely to be movement until the new year with Hunt. I'll take any earlier movement as a christmas present.

He had a blinder in the major SF, was it against the Roosters? Melbourne attack in the GF was....... well, I think Tigers might have beaten them.

Flanno dropped (potentially by accident) that we were close to securing a decent rugby player, any hints on what position it could be?

Halfback or prop. I hope.
its rly interesting, my dad reckons rugby props dont usually have the fitness for league.. im not sure if thats a sure thing.. but it might point towards a half or some sort of outside back or even winger if the Sione Finau leaving is legit.. half you probably wouldnt be taking a punt on as your main guy.. a backup sure.. wing would be fine youd think...

Good point. They are usually short and almost as wide as they are tall. Not really suitable for league. I think their second rowers would be more like league props. And their breakaways more like league second rowers.

Unfortunately I think anyone remotely able to make it in the NRL as a halfback would have been hot property already. Maybe in Europe a halfback or fly half stuck behind an established fly half in France or Ireland (both of whom have gun RU sides) hasn't been on the NRL radar.

Sam Burgess went from prop to centre. Though I think in Union they have inside and outside centre. Inside being more like a backrower in League and outside more like a winger.

this is my thought also.. anyone thats a sure enough thing to make it would be hot property.. the titans got Carter Gordon, and im not even sure the bloke will be in their top 2 halves.. they have 4-5 good options.

There may be a few gems in Europe who aren't really suited to Union but would be perfect in League. Like Sam Burgess and SBW. They were both good at Union but both were way better at league. Once upon a time I think Ricky Stuart might have been similar.

ST. GEORGE-ILLAWARRA DRAGONS – Davvy Moale (Rabbitohs)

2024 was the prop’s best, with Moale playing in a career-high 23 games this past season. Like most of his teammates, it was a sluggish start to the season for Moale and the Rabbitohs’ pack, but he found form as the year progressed, particularly during South Sydney’s five-game winning streak. During that span, Moale started at prop and averaged 130 running metres a game. The Rabbitohs should be trying to hold on to him given his age (21) and the fact that the rest of the front rowers showed little in 2024, but other teams will be in pursuit. The Dragons should be one of them considering they’re light on props and have two that become free agents on November 1 (Michael Molo, Toby Couchman, Viliami Fifita). In addition, the Dragons were one of the worst teams in the NRL in 2024 when it came to running metres made by their front rowers. Moale can provide some much-needed grunt to the Red V engine room.

Has Ryan Couchman been extended bit not Toby?

Dragons need a halfback and a prop so:
  • Zac Laybutt (Cowboys) - no
  • Josiah Pahulu (Titans) - yes
  • Leo Thompson (Knights) - yes
  • Adam Doueihi (Tigers) - maybe
  • Selwyn Cobbo (Broncos) - no
  • Jackson Hastings (Knights) - maybe
  • Kai Pearce-Paul (Knights) - maybe
  • Emre Guler (Raiders) - He's a prop but more of the same. Not bad but not very good either.
  • Xavier Willison (Broncos) - yes
  • Blake Mozer (Broncos) - no
  • Connelly Lemuelu (Dolphins) - no
  • Daniel Atkinson (Sharks) - maybe
  • Davvy Moale (Rabbitohs) - yes
  • Kotoni Staggs (Broncos) - no
  • Braydon Trindall (Sharks) - maybe
  • Briton Nikora (Sharks) - no

The only thing that is certain is that it seems every club but Melbourne, Penrith and the Dragons are very busy recruiting. Dragons haven't even locked up good or promising young players they already have.

  • Zac Laybutt (Cowboys) - who
  • Josiah Pahulu (Titans) - He's a prop but not a very good one
  • Leo Thompson (Knights) - Would be a handy signing. Replace Frank Molo with him.
  • Adam Doueihi (Tigers) - Can he play halfback? If not, not needed.
  • Selwyn Cobbo (Broncos) - Good player but not worth the money they are talking about.
  • Jackson Hastings (Knights) - Can he play halfback?
  • Kai Pearce-Paul (Knights) - Backrower but seems like a good one.
  • Emre Guler (Raiders) - Same for Pahulu
  • Xavier Willison (Broncos) - Definitely
  • Blake Mozer (Broncos) - Severely overrated.
  • Connelly Lemuelu (Dolphins) - Backrower and not a very good one.
  • Daniel Atkinson (Sharks) - Who?
  • Davvy Moale (Rabbitohs) - Who?
  • Kotoni Staggs (Broncos) - Good centre but Dragons don't need a centre.
  • Braydon Trindall (Sharks) - For the right price. i.e. not too much money.
  • Briton Nikora (Sharks) - Another backrower.

Your Dad is a smart man, I remember Scott Gourley was a duel international who wore the big red v can't think of too many others and Scott was a 2nd rower if my memory serves me right not a prop

Wonder if McGuire would be interested in Hunt now that Mam is in deep shit. In saying that I did like the way Wisharts boy has developed this season under Bellamy and I would make a play for him for next season. Just my views
