Thats what hes listed at, but then journos tonight are saying its 875k.. so thats what we will be paying for 2025 (in full).. probably 700 or so for the remaining years... hopefully the remaining Saints gets on board soon, I reckon he will be our man within 24-48hrs.

Potentially captain also.. but I do wonder if Flanno might want to see how the group interacts over pre-season.. the Dogs didnt make their decision till late February with Chrichton... but the other advantage Gutho will have over Cook/Sua is he is on the field for 80mins a game.
Why are you so keen on Parra's reject? They finished below us on the table this year.

Dont think the captaincy will be decided for a while until everyones back training together but just pointing out Sua has played 80min in every game since he's been with us barring injury/Origin.

The Dragons have made many, many mistakes in their time in the NRL - but the decision to part ways with Ben Hunt on Wednesday could, in time, rank as the biggest blunder of them all.

Yes, he wanted out and yes, he didn't have his best season in 2024 - but Hunt was still the Dragons' main man - by a long way.

The Red V should have played hardball with Hunt - he is on one of the richest contracts in the game, both parties agreed to it in good faith - and both should have stuck to it.

Webb on SEN said there are no halfs lined up as of yet to replace Hunt.
Then the situation to give Hunt his marching orders was because any further damage to the clubs reputation made his staying untenable. We will need a stop gap half until we can snare someone like Pezet, Wishart or Sexton for '26.

I never said he was. I did say he has ball skills and vision which he does. We need to find a prime play maker that can hopefully take control, in other words game manage, specially when we are in a position to win. Something Hunt was unable to do in seven looooong years.
It's an interesting conundrum now our 1 and only play maker and alleged game manager has packed his bags. I don't consider Sloan, Flanagan in either category, looks like we are signing Gutherson as well. I am hoping we have someone else in mind to replace Hunt who is flying under the radar. Next week we will know and get a better picture of the makeup of our 17.

He stood out because of his running game but every serious person with a bit of knowledge of the game could see he was failing in organizing and leading the team around. It wasn't all his fault. 5/8s and hookers are supposed to help. He hasn't gotten any help from his 5/8s in a long time but still should have been better himself considering what he was paid.

Hearing Gutherson has been handed an immediate release form the Eels to sign a three year contract with us. Yeh he offers us experience and leadership but the guy is 30. Dont we have sufficient of those already. Other clubs will be calling us Dads Army soon. ''Hey guys Dads Army just signed up for the wooden spoon''. ;)

Ressies half last year. How is he seen as a long term half when Ashton Ward was not as imho he has far more play making/game management talent. The club that snapped up him could see that. Just forgotten for the moment which club, Souths I think. So Bennett rates the kid unlike our own club and he was a local Illawarra junior, from Gerrigong

He stood out because of his running game
His short kicking game #1 asset, running game #2, but he ran only occasionally and the older he got the slower he was and less likely to break the line. He was best 10m out, after that he was out on his feet. Anyway he is finally gone, so good riddance as he had a negative influence on this great club over the past two years, specially.

This has been a theme for a lot of years. I think the club saw the success of Roosters and Melbourne and thought, "We should forget about developing talent and just recruit our way to a good team." Roosters can do that, somehow........ Melbourne haven't done that since they were caught. But the success of Penrith has shown recruiting your way to a premiership doesn't work anymore.

He scored a lot of close range tries. Busting a tackle on the line and scoring was his strongest point. Long kicking was also good. I thought his short kicking was overrated.

He is my long term captain providing he wants it. But as a tribute to our longest serving player, Jack de Belin why not make him our leader for likely his last season with us.
I'm a bit torn over it. I voted for JDB to give the club a season to decide on a long-tern successor. I think Su'A isn't much of a talker.

Lets hope then that having the S G Ball Premiers will change that old fashioned view. We have an Academy so build on that. More needs to be done to nurture additional St George juniors too imho, winning the Ball comp shows us that.

Glover has signed a full time train and trial contract.
Well that answers my question about where we were going to fit a backup half in our squad.. I thought we were going to chase someone higher up... maybe we still will... I dont mind Glover as a competitor/runner, but he rly struggles to kick the ball, his goalkicks barely reach the posts etc.
