News article says Sloan has a hamstring twinge, and Matt is the stand-in if he doesnt play, Lomax not to be moved.
Was just going to report that. I read, "soft tissue injury". Is he really injured or did coach tell him he's injured to spare him from media scrutiny?

it is interesting isnt it.. same thing happened when Lawrie was dropped.. but maybe the injury was legit.. it does seem a pattern though.

Blocka is following a similar pattern to Bird. Few weeks at 18th man then a game in ressie. There has been f*ck all media about Bird playing ressie.

Sloan will come back in ressie just to get some fitness and then stay there.
It's not a bad way to handle it rather than the high media story of Hook dumping him

Interesting. You think this is going to be an extended stay in ressies for Sloan? I don't mind it. I was spitting after the Broncos game with how close he came to costing us but I just don't see any suitable replacement for this year.

Re: Sloans return..... I think tbf it depends how Mathew goes right.. 2 brutal games to start.. at the very least he can make his tackles and take his bombs.. anything more than that would be a real bonus... we will miss that speed though..

Note that Mathew was rly solid in reserve grade, but there isnt a lot of repeat possession in that grade... I am nervous that elite halfbacks like Cleary & Hughes.. a lot more sustained pressure and smart kicking games.. can he keep getting into position for 80 minutes? Be amazing if he goes well though.

Severe lack of speed I guess means a very dour game.

No length of the field tries for us (but might be a few for them) but still might be ok. The plan is to drag them down into a brawl. That's as plain as day. It'll be interesting to see how it works.

May as well try it for this year because no alternative but I hope they are working hard to address the lack of speed.

Hasn't run over 100m in the last 8 games..... That's a sick joke for a fullback.
He really hasn't been involved in the attacking structures much in that period. He has had the odd game where he has looked dangerous. He seems to lack urgency in running the ball back from a kick. His attacking stat's this season reveals he avg about 12.5 runs a game, avg 100m a game in 17 games. Compared to Edwards avg 23.5 runs a game, 236m and Tedesco 20 runs a game, 193m. Probably unfair on the kid to compare him with the elite so look at Bula for Wests who are running last, he avg 18 runs a game avg 156m behind a poor pack. So that doesn't go well for young Sloan I'm afraid.

I think if you broke those stats up into first 8 games and last 8 there would be a noticeable drop.
Even further those last 8 games in 4 game blocks another drop.

Heard on the Red V Podcast that RFM will take some injections to get through the game but it'll be a week to week proposition for him. An issue around recovery with his back problem.

I'm hesitant on playing anyone with serious injury concerns in the next 2 games (Panthers & Storm).

Agree , it may be a coincidence but since he has been extended he seems to have come off the boil, albeit some may argue he was never on the boil

The weird thing is when he runs the ball hard with speed then he's able to break tackles or at-least poke his head through the line but when he jogs to the line he gets pushed back. I've seen him put on numerous successful fends too but once again when he's running the ball with speed.
