Round 9: St. George Illawarra v Wests Tigers

That attempt on Staines was horrific, just no other way to describe it. He'll run away and score a 90 m try this weekend and all will be forgotten.
Honestly I have watched that try 6 times and there was no intent on his behalf to even be in the right position to make the tackle , look at the previous 2 play the balls leading up to the try. Poor positioning, poor technique, poor concentration. In any other grade he would have to be dropped.

He should be dropped , Finau offers more he was dropped because of his defence , Sloan should go ...... Give lawson a go on the wing , big strong fast .......

He is being starved by our play makers. He looks good when he goes roaming inside but needs to pick his time carefully. Barely did it on Sat and with his weak defensive effort, had his WORST game of the season. On that performance I am sending him back to Ressies and promoting Finau who was strong on the flank yesterday. Allan will be given another game no doubt.
I had high hopes for young Sloan RVH but this year he just hasn't shown anything to suggest that he would make the wing spot his to keep for the year. Yes, I love his tries that he has scored so far this year but his defence is letting him and the team down and great defence wins you games so he has a big fail in that area of his game. When Staines was running to the try line I could see Sloan easily getting to him but his attempt to either tackle him into touch of tackle him ball and all before the try line was hopeless.

We do need someone with some speed though so the replacement, if he is to be replaced, will need to have plenty of speed and of course much better defence.

Wingers should be Lawson and Finau. At least until CT is back. Allan goes ok. Has some skill and good sense about when to run, pass, rush in, stay out and etc but not fast or powerful enough to be a good winger. He might be a good centre. Flanno could even play Suli on the wing. No way in the world Holmes is going anywhere.

Lawson aint ready for Firsts imho. Agree Allan too slow and we have a couple of those already. We need genuine speed from our outside backs.
So Sloan and Finau? If Finau was dropped due to his defensive efforts but Sloan isn't after last weekend, that'll do me. Flanno has lost the plot and has something personal against Finau.

Yeah I have to agree with you there mate, that tackle on Staines, if you could call it a tackle was all about position and effort, there was certainly none of either.
The guy was nearly at a standstill , the sideline was a meter away even now I would have bundled the guy into touch , under the rib cage and drive him ....... Too airy fairy for me ....... He needs to snap out of it or he ain't going to make it ........
