NZ will probably start favourites vs Australia.
They will if we retain the same 17. That Kangaroo side lacked CLASS, specially the backrow and the halves.

This Pacific Champs is a bit of a joke. Why isnt each team playing each other rather than this silly two tier system. This means we go into the Kiwi game with no play for two weeks while they have played a week earlier. We may be the fresher of the two but not as game hardened.

A 3 game series vs NZ might have been the best with the other teams playing each other but not Aus or NZ.

My point being for the one tier format, that the minnows wont improve unless they play against the stronger sides. A thrashing may be humiliating but it does make you mentally stronger.

The Kangaroos should tour England next season for the three match footy Ashes with a stopover match in France. Then make the Ashes reciprocal every two years. In between we can play a Kiwi series, or a Pacific series, home and away..

Makes sense but in the short term, NZ v Aus in a 3 game series would be more entertaining.
Agree. Gotta be said that NZ League has the ARL to thank for opening their doors to a Kiwi side and that most playing in this tournament cut their teeth in the NRL. I hope this is acknowledged and never forgotten. Now we have to do the same with the other newbies/ minnows by including a combined Pacific Island side in the NRL as a priority over another Qld, NZ or even a West Aussie side, tho the latter needs to also take precedence imho.

I don't think it was the ARL doing any favours for the Kiwis but money talking. NRL searching far and wide for the best players.

But NZ certainly have a very serious team nowdays.

Still have issues with depth. Australia lose their first and second choice hookers and have someone like Korasau coming in (who I rate a better hooker than Hunt). NZ do it and have to rely on a NSW Cup hooker.

Brent Read in Tele, speaking re the Amone stand down " Ben Hunt has neither the time or patience to go thru a slow and painful rebuild".

Stuff him. Hunt is a paid player, if he wont tow the club line he should be sacked. BOD are weak as piss.

I've never given Hunt a lot of sympathy. And after the way he's carried on over the last 6 months, he certainly won't get any. But I thought the interview he gave regarding Amone was pretty balanced.

Brent Read said that but no indication that comment came from Hunt. At least not in his direct quotations.

I quoted that sentence verbatim as Read said it. I also read what Hunt said re Amone. But Hunt is on record as making that comment before and me thinks Read requoted as it covered the same subject of having to rebuild if players were lost to the club as Amone probably will be.

That's true. I was just saying in this latest interview, as far as I can see, he was much better than he has been over the last 6 months.

Some word around that Storm has released Papenhysen to a Sydney club. It may be us as perhaps Flanagan feels fullback is a worrying position to fill as it is a specialist spot with many aspects to master. I think he still has either Sloan or Lomax in mind, but if a specialist f/b was on the market he may jump at it. Still very little being said about Cody Ramsey.

I heard there was a rumour about him being offered to a Sydney club but then the Storm FO shut it down.

Meninga is resting Haas, Tino, Cobbo for todays Kiwi match. He has to be kidding, the two props have not played for two weeks as it is. Bloody baffling call. Congrats Tom Flegler, Nicho Hynes on both making their Kangaroos debut.

Yeo retained? Hunt #9 again. Huge thumbs down.
Hynes will be the rover. Prefer he was picked in the halves.

Hunt is a better hooker than halfback. Much better. But still getting picked on reputation. He was really poor for the Dragons last season and didn't play well in Origin.
