Unfortunately, unlikely O'Ofuo is going to make it in first grade. I think he's 23 now and in and out of NSW Cup.

Coric is a bit more skillful than Lawrie but not sure how he'll go making metres in first grade until he gets a chance.
Well until you give him a crack we will never know. Coric is more skillful.. agree. saw him bust the defense and instead of running out of puff or waiting for support he chipped ahead and regathered but never scored. Lawrie is your old fashioned prop. Like him to develop an off load but he throws himself into the defensive line like a runaway bull. You need to be more vertical and spin in the tackle for an offload.

If Lawrie maintained his metre making efforts of the second half of the season and developed an offload, he'd be a star.

Unless it was the last tackle, I think the coach wouldn't be very happy about the chip but you're right, it shows he has some skills. Just as long as he doesn't show off his skill at the expense of doing a props main job of charging forward and getting the team on the front foot. Look at Bryce Cartwright for example. Very skillful but in NSW Cup and seemingly no possibility of first grade barring an injury crisis.

Be ideal. But I dont think he has the bulk to smash thru defenses and then offload. He is only 106 kilos and is now hitting the defense more crouched than before. Gives him more metres but less likely to split the line.

I agree he's not going smash through the defence but not because of being too small but being too slow. Very few forwards can smash through the line and come out the other side. They usually drag a few defenders with them and get a quick play the ball or offload. Payne Haas is obviously an exception but apart from him, I can't think of any props who smash through the line and come out the other side.

Payne Haas
David Fifita, Kikau, Pangai. These are all big units. Lawrie being so slow and lower to the ground is an easier target for the defense to stop his progess. So how is he going to offload. Watch how Aaron Woods produces his offload by being more vertical, releasing his arms then turning in the tackle.

Fifta and Kikau are second rowers who play on an edge. I can't remember seeing Pangai every burst through the defensive line and of course he's been dropped this week.

He is a beast. Some of his defense.. makes JDB look like a novice.
That is some serious defence! Let's wait and see if he can do it in first grade.
My point is they are big units capable of splitting the defence. Unlike the more stocky and liter Blake Lawrie.
My point is, props very rarely to almost never do that so it's unfair to expect it from Lawrie.

James Graham telling us what we want to hear!

Basically saying Hunt should take the 700k and play hooker from next season to allow Sullivan to play halfback.

In my humble opinion and the stats support this view. When Lawrie was running upright early in the season he was being smashed making an avg 70 to 80m a game. He changed his running style lower to the ground lowering his gravity and quicker leg speed and low and behold he now goes from a bench forward I suggested he was to a starting prop avg 136m in the last 9 games. No need for an offload he has found his niche now all we need is another big prop who can match these impressive running stats. Moving forward next season hopefully we will have Bird on 1 edge who has already a passing/ offload and possibly JDB back to lock on the other edge to refind his offload ability. Just my views.

Surely we can agree that Lawrie as he has been for the last 2 months is first grade standard but to bring his game to another level, where he is maybe even a fringe rep player, he needs an offload.

IMO if Bird is going to remain in the run on forwards, he needs to work on his defence in a really major way!

Lawrie needs to concentrate on his niche no offloads just bend the line land on his stomach quick play the balls make those metres

Lets aim higher. Bend the line, get quick play the balls, make those metres along with the occasionally offload or two.

In my view if he tries to offload he will get smashed and we will have no go forward. He is an old style prop we need another bigger unit that can actually go through the line and then look for the offload and more importantly entice the edge forwards and hooker to follow that forward.
