Griffin & Hunt

What to do with Hunt...... I think the club should let him go despite his game yesterday.
There is not a realistic chance in hell that the Dragons management want to get rid of Hunt. If he decides to stay not only will he get more than the original tabled offer he will get at least $100k more in my view. He will, if re signed will be our 7 until 2025. It is actually up to him and depends on how much money the Dolphins will throw at him in an effort to sign him.

Is that what you want to happen or what you expect to happen?

Expect to happen, he is a very big chance of creating history in regards to the Dally M awards. I think at the very least he will be named half back of the year if not overall best and fairest player. If that is the case he can demand big $$. We will see next month how serious the Dolphins are to sign him as their marquee player

I haven't heard anything about the Dolphins wanting him. They have Marshall to play hooker and O'Sullivan to play halfback.

Personally I rate Hunt but he's 32. Sullivan and Hooper are the future.

This is a really tough one.
If a club can get a quality halfback for 750k, it's a bargain.
We know how Amone and Sullivan as a combo went in their one chance in first grade together.
Wallace and Herring in Jersey Flegg are both quality halves.

The risk is Sullivan leaving and becoming a superstar. Think Canterbury telling Thurston to seek life elsewhere.

At this point, I don't really care. Hunt extends for not more than 750k so Sullivan leaves. Hunt extends and plays hooker. Hunt leaves.

Don't forget he has already been at the club for 5 years. IMO time to bite the bullet and let him go.

EEK please no. Imagine the affect that will have on our best junior halves. Sullivan will be first to go. We saw two of our best prospects yesterday in Braxton Wallace and Zack Herring. These two will want to play FG before '25 and will seek another club to do so. Someone come in and disband our BOD. Front Office needs a broom thru it to fix this mess..

Just wondering if winning our last two games will convince FO to further extend Griffin..not a bit surprised if they do as they wont want the Griffin/Hunt saga to go on and on without a solution that will satisfy the BOD and save them face. So the Dogs have not made Hunt an offer, and the Qld clubs that were stiffing around earlier have evidently stopped. So this all points, as you say jodragon, that the club will not only keep Hunt for next year but extend him till '25.

I expect Hunt to win the Dally M and in doing so create history. If this is the case or at the very least he is named as halfback of the year then his manager will be able to obtain the $850k a year he is asking for. Whether it is with us or another club time will tell.

Agree and I believe that he will be offered anything up to the $850k he is asking especially after the Dally M night at the end of this month.

We won last 3, credit where credit is due. Under Griffin this is the highest we have finished in 3 years. The boardroom will take this into consideration plus having to pay out Griffin $475k if they sack him. So the writing is on the wall. Hunt retained, Griffin not sacked and more unrest within the club and team. You heard it here first.

Not so sure. Everyone knows that at the best teams, the good players compete with each other for the points while in the poor teams, one of two players dominate.

It was the last 3 games. Gold Coast, Tigers and Broncos. Each game was in the balance until at least the last quarter. Hardly convincing wins. We know about the former 2 while the Broncos have some very serious issues within the team/club. They were a shadow of the team they were 6 weeks ago.

Agree. If Sullivan isn't what we hope, there are more outstanding prospects coming through.

The good money is on Nicko Hynes. More deserved as his contribution has the Sharkies within a sniff of a premiership whereas Ben's contribution has us missing the finals for the fifth year on the trot. And when did our esteemed half join us.. five years ago.

That's not my personal view. There should be good players in every team, individual performances are just one aspect of the game. The media hype up games and individuals, ie Cleary v Moses next week only because of the current status of the team. All season did they ever hype Cleary v Hunt? of course not, and the average supporter is influenced by such media hype. It's purely as a result of the teams actual performance at the time. Just my views

Because the cluey footy experts know there is no contest. Ben picked up those DM three pointers because he is the skipper and prime play maker so MOM voters naturally signal him out for major points, specially if he leads a win. He had to have been the best player as he kicked the vital 20/20, made a few good line snipes, generally had the backline moving plus topped it off by skippering the side to two comp points. That is his job for crying out loud..
