NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg, 2024

o Nick got put on report twice last week (iirc), I thought both were completely fair tackles just hard and aggressive.. I assume there was no charge if hes been named... but yes thats his major problem, trying to thread the line between aggression and over-aggression.. in theory we dont mind that ofcourse, its a trait we want in our forwards.. but they seem to have a target on him now.. I will also say he looks too big for flegg, id be curious to see how he goes against bigger bodies where he cant smash them into the dirt so readily.

o I do agree Coric looks good starting, but i reckon Fifita has been given the talk.. prove that you belong in our Top30.. and maybe AlecT has had a similar talk about being kept around.. dunno.. definitely makes a big different having no couchmans in that squad... I will say I thought Freebairn was barnstorming last week also.. but ultimately im more interested in developing players we might want to keep around next year.

o Geez Jake seems to go a lot of rep weekends... just him I assume...
I think you might be right re Fifita and Alec T but they should have gotten the talk some weeks, or months ago. Fifita in particular seems damaging with his running. That's why it's too bad he so rarely goes looking for the ball.

  • Can't understand why #15 on the bench? From what I've seen, he's going better than #8 and #10. I'd be starting #16 and #15 with #8 and #10 on the bench.
  • Nice to see #1, #4 and #16 getting a chance in Cup. I'd like to see Helengahu get a chance on an edge as well.
  • #13 was good against Souths. He's consistent. If he was as big as his brother, that might be the big bodied prop jodragon40 jodragon40 talks about. Too bad he isn't (as big as his brother).
  • #1 will put a stack of muscle on that frame over the next 2 years. Imagine a Josh Dugan who can pass.
  • What happened to Helengahu? Surely not dropped. He seemed to go ok to me.
  • Wonder why #11 can't get a chance in NSW Cup. He's big enough. IMO he shouldn't put on more weight. A good balance of speed and size now.
  • Hopefully #13 gets a chance in NSW Cup also.
I would suggest that 8 and 10 may not cut the mustard in 1st grade

I'm unimpressed by Dylan Egan, he doesn't have any traits which looks transferable to 1st grade imo. I hope I'm wrong but he looks like a toiler.

Nick T has speed & power which could transfer to 1st grade but he also needs to work on his aggression. He looks to have put on a bit of size too but hasn't lost speed which is awesome.

Egan was better when he was smaller. Seems to have bulked up so much that he's really slow now. Might make it as a middle forward. Won't as a back-rower.

Jesse may come into the halfs and Bird into centre.

Has he already been playing hooker? I thought he was 5/8.
Yaa as JaMF said, he debuted in flegg as a 9, but I believe struggled but looked much better after moving to 6 to cover injury.. and has played 6 since then...

In not sure hooker is the answer longer-term for such a tiny guy.. its more of a stop-gap, but they will be making this change for a reason.. maybe they think quinn is a better 6....so im just glad TPH is getting game time in U21s and moving forward still, and the day he gets that fullback gig.. rly keen to see whether he can smash it like he did in the Dragons SG side...

Would need to grow a lot. To play anywhere in the NRL.

I think if he can get to dufty size or trai fuller size.. I think he can do it from fullback.. but hes gotta keep showing that crazy attack and tenacious defence he did at SG level.. it could take a bit longer.. one thing that holds him back is hes 'quick' but hes not 'lightning', so he makes breaks like noones business, but he cant make the most of it.

Neither of Dufty and Fuller can cut in the NRL. I think he needs to grow, of course but needs to concentrate on becoming a short and stocky hooker.

Gee whiz we have a very strong team for our game today against the Roosters. Live on Foxtel Ch502 @11.30am
1. Jack Bird
Our pack
8. Fifita
9. Muhleisen (cpt)
10. Tuitavake
11. Egan
12. Russell
13. Stewart

We really should be winning this one to stay in touch to play semi finals football

I cant watch the NSW Cup game till tonight, but rly hope they can pull something off.. bit surprised Brown isnt playing 6, I thought they were working towards him playing first grade next week when Hunt was out.. surely Flanno isnt going to throw LKT up against the Broncos?

Also interesting to see how Bird goes, I think this is more about getting miles in his legs post-injury.. and seeing if he handles it.. and that vacant fullback spot is there to be used... but I dont think Bird is being tested for a potential first grade fullback gig.. all that running & jumping.. and hes not that quick.. dont see him working to replace Sloan for example.

Some interesting changes for the Jersey Flegg game.
TPH to fullback and Rumble out. What is that about? Injured or promoted to NSW Cup? Surely not dropped.

this is what ive been waiting for to see TPH get a crack.. not sure whats happened to Rumble tho.

Bird has been diabolical to start this game.. we had a massive set.. then Bird got burnt badly by a winger for a try.. next set hes too slow to get to the kick or mop it up.. roosters went within 30cm of a 2nd try.. im not sure I remember a players speed being so badly exposed.
