NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg, 2024

We havent clocked off too early. Some shoddy defense last 10 mins.
Glad I'm no longer coaching. I would have made them shower only using the cold water tap. That last 20 min defensively was rubbish. As I have said consistently even back in my day you have to instill mental toughness into a player. Plus Souths won't be playing semi finals football this season and neither will we unless we start concentrating and playing to the full time hooter. F.M.

Cooper Roberts scored a double for the Dragons, while fellow winger Savelio Tamale — who has signed with the Raiders for next season — shone with a try, a linebreak, eight tackle busts and 253 metres.

Meanwhile, rising talent Lyhkan King-Togia made the switch to fullback after previously playing in the halves and looked right at home. The 19-year-old Dalby product set up three tries, got three linebreak assists and ran 83 metres.

King-Togia arrived to the Dragons last season and spent some time training with the NRL squad over the summer. He played SG Ball for the Illawarra Steelers earlier this year, joined the Cup side in Round 13 and has held his spot ever since.

Development player Josh Coric was rock-solid for the Dragons in their 32-18 win over the Rabbitohs with 178 metres and 16 tackles — no misses.

Could LKT be in for a NRL debut this year? Why not? Multiple other clubs have even younger players in the team.

Keep in mind Kyle Flanno yet again had no try assists, no linebreak assists.

LKT is barely finding his feet at cup level, im hoping playing a little fullback will accelerate it, but hes nowhere near taking over the #1 or #6 jersey just yet.. perhaps mid 2025 we will have this conversation.

He also has no contract currently, but im assuming they will slip him a development contract for next season..

Maybe so but how many people said that of Tigers 18 year-old 5/8 or Canberra's 19 year-old 5/8? I think both clubs wish they didn't have to throw them in the deep end so soon but circumstances meant they had little choice but to do that.

Kyle Flanno is getting worse. Can't kick, can't run, can't do playmaking. His dummy and run is now costing us. Mid way through the second half, after a Couchman break and quick play the ball, we had them on the ropes, only had to get it out wide where they had no one. Kyle dummied and ran. No one fell for it, easily tackled, try bombed. Fortunately I think JDB charged over 2 tackles later but that was all on him and RFM.

Marshke should get a chance first.

Would like to see him get a shot in the last few rounds if we are out if the running, but I can't see Flanno doing it.

Full Time T&T contact atm.

Flanno is being very patient, and although there are risks to that approach there are big payoffs.. especially for us as its been very hard to land who we actually want.. I reckon the plan is they will just keep headhunting first grade (and potentially lower grades) the best they can for 2025, meanwhile these kids from SG/JF/Cup.. hopefully some of them will show they are capable of the step-up.

But there are 4 Development spots free for next year.. at some point Flanno has to promote some of those T&T's, or maybe he will do it early next year after a pre-season when he gets them training with 1sts?

  • Can't understand why #15 on the bench? From what I've seen, he's going better than #8 and #10. I'd be starting #16 and #15 with #8 and #10 on the bench.
  • Nice to see #1, #4 and #16 getting a chance in Cup. I'd like to see Helengahu get a chance on an edge as well.
  • #13 was good against Souths. He's consistent. If he was as big as his brother, that might be the big bodied prop jodragon40 jodragon40 talks about. Too bad he isn't (as big as his brother).
  • #1 will put a stack of muscle on that frame over the next 2 years. Imagine a Josh Dugan who can pass.
  • What happened to Helengahu? Surely not dropped. He seemed to go ok to me.
  • Wonder why #11 can't get a chance in NSW Cup. He's big enough. IMO he shouldn't put on more weight. A good balance of speed and size now.
  • Hopefully #13 gets a chance in NSW Cup also.

Josh Coric form has been getting better every week.

Jake is at ASSRL National Championships this weekend
Nick needs to work on his aggressive and stupid penalties.
2 suspensions and 2 sin bins is not going to get you a game in cup

o Nick got put on report twice last week (iirc), I thought both were completely fair tackles just hard and aggressive.. I assume there was no charge if hes been named... but yes thats his major problem, trying to thread the line between aggression and over-aggression.. in theory we dont mind that ofcourse, its a trait we want in our forwards.. but they seem to have a target on him now.. I will also say he looks too big for flegg, id be curious to see how he goes against bigger bodies where he cant smash them into the dirt so readily.

o I do agree Coric looks good starting, but i reckon Fifita has been given the talk.. prove that you belong in our Top30.. and maybe AlecT has had a similar talk about being kept around.. dunno.. definitely makes a big different having no couchmans in that squad... I will say I thought Freebairn was barnstorming last week also.. but ultimately im more interested in developing players we might want to keep around next year.

o Geez Jake seems to go a lot of rep weekends... just him I assume...
