It sounds like his preference is to stay... but if we cant come to agreeance on:
  1. Money - Especially if rivals are willing to pay ~100k or more overs (maybe they are short young middles)
  2. Opportunity - Are rival clubs promising him a spot in the 17 for next year? Where as he has both Stewart & Tonga in front here..
Unfortunately we still dont know.. if we do lose him I assume a 2 week cooldown applies also, so we might not know for quite a while.. rivals still cant officially talk to him either.

I'm just going to trust the club on this one. With so many good young forwards already in the top 30, going to have to let some go. If Latu wants twice as much as Egan, maybe Egan is more a priority.

He'll go on the market so don't expect any news for a while.

Charles Heidke will go further than Buchanan in first grade, size matters and I can’t see Buchanan translating his SG ball success to the NRL with much more physically dominant outside backs waiting for him.

I’ve said my peace for today

Been a couple of blokes with all the talent in the world but with the wrong body type for their game. Dufty, Ramsey, Sloan, Jackson Ford. Even Blocka Lawrie with his effort and determination in Josh Kerrs body would be Payne Haas 2.0.

But Dragons fans always rate imports over our own. Take this thing with Atkinson > LKT as a 5/8. I don't think so. Until this week a lot of people probably would have said RFM and Tom Eisenhuth are better than Dylan Egan.

I don't know anything about Charles Heidke but Buchanan is 19 and very far from being out of his depth in reserve grade. Reason to think he's going to be good.

I'm feeling good about Heidke also, age wise would be about the same as Buchanan, but Heidke has only played @SG level so far.. so long way behind in development.

Buchanan has looked good in Cup this year which is promising.. still a teenager.. he does seem physically like he is between positions.. maybe a bit like a Jye Gray, but Jye is making it as a fullback where you can 'just' get away with being smaller.. definitely still have some hope, but like you im sort of on the fence about his size.. I dont think hes a winger even though he played there on the weekend..... I mean we have so many.. dont think hes a fullback, I think hes a ctr or bust.. and his skill for his age is pretty good.. so by Age 21 or so it might be a different story.... but the counter is as you say.. centres these days are all monsters..

Is that just to see what offers are there or not happy with our offer etc
Hopefully yep.. its probably a smart move to test the market properly.. and hopefully we have right of reply and hes actually happy to stay.. thats what the Couchies did.. but they r local boys.. hopefully Latu is the same.. but shame it has to come to this, especially @18.

The manager wouldn’t be doing right by his client if he didn’t test the waters and see what was out there. If parra were to offer him a 4 year 1.5m deal then they would just have to take it.

Hopefully a big win over the eels this week shows Finau that this teams on the rise and it’s a place to develop and further his career and parra have a long way to go to get back to the top

Has anyone been tracking Jesse Williams in flegg? I haven’t watched a minute of flegg so far (will watch more when the SG ball ends)

Just wondering how Jesse is travelling this year?

Looked like a stud in SG ball last year

I watch most of the flegg games and sometimes highlights, he is still that stud.. half a gap and he accelerates thru it.. I love him.. but.. im also not getting too excited cause he didnt explode in jersey flegg last year the way I thought/hoped he would... and I'm known as Jesse Williams #1 fan on a few forums btw.. I was all in lol.

I remember a gus podcast where he talked about dragons having 2 absolute gun wingers coming thru.. clearly he was keen to take a crack at atleast 1 of them.. 1 would have been Jesse, the other I assume Tom Kirk.. I love gus but I hate him too now that he works for the enemy... so I assume Jesse will also hit open market in a few weeks.. tbf to the club he would have had a huge preseason with the club.. but he got injured.. I hate footy at times.. thats all it takes, 1 badly timed injury and u lose a player because the timing is slightly off. Kirk is now another example.. will miss a year.

The qn for Jesse is probably his work rate with hitups and his defence.. I cant really speak to it, I havent watched him really closely since SG Ball last year, and he was good at that point in a dominant side.. but I dunno.. would be a shame to lose someone with that pace and size before he even gets started.. I think Saifiti could be a real challenger also.. but he is a bit wild still, and doesnt have Jesses size.. speed wise probably they are similar.. maybe Jesse is in a class above though.. but Saifiti is plenty quick..

yeah I remember that Gus part vividly, Gus has a massive wrap on our juniors. In his podcast with mat Thompson last year he said the one thing we have is a very good set of young fellas who are 18 months - 2 years away from first grade.

Saifiti has been a bit of a disappointment for mine, hasn’t been bad but I was expecting more. Has lots of errors in his game.

Phillips has been good as expected, especially considering the forward pack hasn’t had any real go forward. Be interesting to see how he goes in his 2nd season of Sg ball next year with a bunch of different forwards, should take another step as a player being a year older and bulking up a bit more.

Speaking of Hookers, iirc Liddle and Cook are both out of contract after next year. I think re-signing liddle should be a priority to shore up the hooker role for Phillips to take the 14 role when Cook leaves permitting Phillips kicks on and develops how we think he will

Is Phillips a year young still? Interesting (a shame and also a bonus).. there is definitely a hooker missing from Flegg/Cup... well.. depends how serious they are on Hjaltason/Fagalilo.. I do think Muheleissen has been solid this year too, but I dont think its enough to try again to upgrade him.

Hopefully Liddles hand is nrly 100% and he can get a few more minutes.. and they can talk contract.. think its a Mutual Option for 2026 according to zero tackle.. I dont think were gonna find anyone better, I assume he and the coach get along fine..

Yeah he seems like a quiet guy, always sounds appreciative when I hear him speak to media. Young family as well. I’m sure he’d rather stay than move elsewhere.
Easy decision IMO, he’s been a top 5 hooker in th e comp the last 18 months

I remember Just a Mug Fan Just a Mug Fan had a high opinion of Hjaltason but haven't heard much of anything about him since. Is he injured or too old for Flegg, not good enough for Cup?

Unpopular opinion. Because of the number of young forwards but lack of young halves and first grade standard halves, LKT will be a bigger loss than Latu.
