Recruitment and Retention for 2023

He's might have already told the club he's going to test his value on the market. Which means he'll probably be leaving. I know no other clubs are supposed to have talked to him but they almost certainly have.
If he "officially" hits the open market, I think it means he's gone. Not a big problem. We still have a year to sort out the spine for 2024 and onward.

Win the Dally M, be selected for Australia, you bet he will get close to asking price. That's just business and common sense
I don't think it's common sense. He's 32, the Dally M ranking system is flawed and he has a ready made replacement. If he were 25 and there was no ready made replacement, he'd be in for a 1.5mil plus payday.

Jake Turpin is trying to find a new club. Certainly no better than average on his best day but surely would have been a better option to Liddle.

Remember he'll be selected by Australia and a hooker. That is what he should play next year, IMO. Unless Sully screws up repeatedly over the first 10 rounds.
IMO it's a perfect opportunity to have Hunt at hooker mentor Sullivan but would Hunt do that? Because he's been very public about wanting to play halfback.

Anyway, the best scenario for me would be:
  1. Sullivan halfback.
  2. Hunt helping make Sully a successful transition to an NRL halfback.
  3. Hooper spends the year preparing to take over #9 from 2024.
  4. If Sullivan isn't the halfback we hope, Wallace or Herring to get a chance from 2024.
  5. If Sullivan, Wallace and Herring are not, or are not yet (for the latter 2) NRL standard halfbacks, Amone to halfback, Lomax 5/8 for 2024.
I know #5 might be a disaster but it's not as if the last 5 years have been rosy. Time to take a chance, IMO.

Won't happen

We can't afford to lose him especially when our future plans involve him in mentoring Sullivan and Amone.
But if Hunt extends, Sullivan is gone. Simple as that. Forget Albert Young's condescending trolling about Sullivan biding his time behind Hunt for another 3 years. It's 100% not going to happen. So I'm thinking have Hunt at hooker mentor Sullivan at halfback next year.

According to DT, Hunt has officially rejected the Dragons revised offer. Means he hitting the open market. Glad he made the call even if it's a call a lot of Dragons fans won't like.

As I have been saying all season we have a massive salary cap issue, and have had for the last two seasons and unfortunately for the next two seasons because of existing contracts. The facts are we are unable to sign or attract any decent players, selections of the team this season whether you want to believe it or not were made purely upon the fact that we could not afford to breach the salary cap, not on form or availability, hence our young stars not being able to be blooded and in reality having the same 21 players running out every week. Nothing changes in this area until after 24. The club and team are divided, the coach has lost the dressing room and our senior management dont have the ability or intestinal fortitude to change the current situation. There is no way that the club is going to pay Griffin out, the money isn't there. It is for these and other reasons why I have based my prediction that we won't have a competitive top 8 team until 25. Next season unless something drastically changes in regards to salary cap increases to clubs by the NRL, allowing us some movement we could be heading towards a wooden spoon. Time will tell. It's so very sad.

Salary cap problems aren't an issue according to the club. The opposite. They say "we have money to spend". Though certainly having the useless signing of Mbye for 450k is 450k wasted. Macca is probably on something around 300~400k as well.

I don't believe a word they say

There is money in the kitty as according to the Mole the Panthers won be able to hold onto their Samoan international Spencer Leniu and that the Dragons are leading the hunt for his signiture for next season. Still no denial from FO that we are also looking at bringing David Fifita here.
Spencer Leniu would be a very hand pick up.

yeah but our incompetent fools will throw 1 mil a year at him and then wonder why other clubs continue to poach the best juniors.
He's not a member of Hook's superstar Broncos U20s team from 15 years ago. He has a track record of dud recruitment but he only pays massive overs for those Broncos U20s.
