I think Ben Hunt has always been a really good halfback and has been a really good halfback for us for the last 2 years. Before that, he probably copped too much criticism and the idiot coach took advice from the media.I'm not even against him being re-signed. Either of the Jersey Flegg halves might be a better long term option than Sullivan. But if that is what they decide, Hunt should be on no more than 750K max for his next contract.
But now, probably by accident, the stars have aligned for him to be let go at the end of his existing contract. These are so many option available to the club if they do that.
- Next year Hunt starts at hooker allowing Sullivan to have 5 or 6 rounds at halfback. Hopefully behind a pack with a little more go-forward.
- If it doesn't work out with Sullivan, Hunt back to halfback, Liddle to hooker.
- If it doesn't work out with Sullivan, the club has a year to find a replacement. Which might be hiding right under our nose with Herring or Wallace.
- If it works out with Sullivan, we have another year to prepare Sam Hooper for NRL. Keeping in mind he was in NSW Cup for a large part of last season.
- If it works out with Sullivan, club has a lot of money to spend on a good forward or two.
