Recruitment and Retention for 2023

I'm not even against him being re-signed. Either of the Jersey Flegg halves might be a better long term option than Sullivan. But if that is what they decide, Hunt should be on no more than 750K max for his next contract.
I think Ben Hunt has always been a really good halfback and has been a really good halfback for us for the last 2 years. Before that, he probably copped too much criticism and the idiot coach took advice from the media.

But now, probably by accident, the stars have aligned for him to be let go at the end of his existing contract. These are so many option available to the club if they do that.
  1. Next year Hunt starts at hooker allowing Sullivan to have 5 or 6 rounds at halfback. Hopefully behind a pack with a little more go-forward.
  2. If it doesn't work out with Sullivan, Hunt back to halfback, Liddle to hooker.
  3. If it doesn't work out with Sullivan, the club has a year to find a replacement. Which might be hiding right under our nose with Herring or Wallace.
  4. If it works out with Sullivan, we have another year to prepare Sam Hooper for NRL. Keeping in mind he was in NSW Cup for a large part of last season.
  5. If it works out with Sullivan, club has a lot of money to spend on a good forward or two.

McLean or Crichton would be fine additions to our pack if we had a sensible R/R which looks to be pursuing a wooden spooner prop instead.
McLean is a good prop but I doubt the Dragons are interested. How would it look with when he runs out for the Alex McInnon Cup? By all accounts the rumors about Lodge's personality are true but he's younger and at least just as good as McLean. Best option would be for Coric or Couchman to make a successful jump up to first grade.

Yes. Lets back our juniors. Have started with Sloan and Sullivan. The two 'amigos' now have some clarity over their futures. Only fly in the ointment for Sully is if we extend Hunt for two years. Next we want FO to commit to Coric, Couchman, Hooper, Herring and Wallace.

Keep saying this over and over Sully Hunt rotation 7 and 9 until Sully settles into first grade ..... I'm ok Sully on the bench then come into games by switching Hunt to 9 ..... But what the F**K do I know ......

If only dreams came true. The blueprint for Sullivan has been inked. He comes on for the ageing McCullough. The problem now with this is we have signed another hooker Liddle from the super successful Tigers. So what happens to Sullivan? What a bloody mess.

Is it money that is holding up Hunt's decision over whether he stays after next year. All indications are FO are trying to lock him in. Is Bennet still sniffing around perhaps and is set to make a formal offer come Nov1.

That's a good idea. Never thought of that. Give the snail or Liddle a break, move Hunt to hooker, Sully comes on as halfback. I like it!

Hope I'm wrong but I don't think it's money , I read somewhere it's got to do with Hook staying , if that's what it is then see you later both of them .....

I'm not so sure. Maybe jodragon40 jodragon40 would agree, it would be perfect if it were changing a centre and winger or lock and prop or fullback and winger but not a halfback. Can't change halfbacks mid game and then change back again before fulltime. I still prefer the idea of Hunt from hooker mentoring Sully at halfback for a full season. But if Sully really isn't up to it, like Beau Henry and Drew Hutchinson who both excelled in the lower grades weren't, can drop him and move Hunt back to halfback, Liddle to hooker.

It would create a halfback issue for the following year but if that happens, so be it. It happens. It would still be debatable whether the club made a mistake by not re-signing Hunt due to his age. It's not as if we've had huge success with Hunt at halfback.

Amone to halfback and Lomax to 5/8 could be a decent temporary combo to use for a season if Sully doesn't make it.

Ben made it clear early on that his staying was dependent on Hook also staying. So you theorise that Ben is procrastinating because FO is not sure whether they are keeping the coach after next season? Bloody hell you drongos you should have terminated after this season.
If Hunt is offered enough money, I'd bet he'll stay regardless of whatever Hook is doing.
