Recruitment and Retention for 2024

We need to be locking down not only Jess but all of our best young guns, before we look elsewhere at other clubs juniors, unless it is in a position we lack.
Need to. Flanno as yet can't attract any big names, let go of one of our best, hasn't re-signed the other 2. He's staked the next several years on the young players.

Jacob Halangahu, Loko Pasifiki Tonga, Hamish Stewart are all listed at least on development deals for next year. Something positive for now. Zero tackle has Cyrus Stanley-Traill listed on a deal from 2017! Is he only about 15? Or he's about 20 now but Flanno unwilling to give him a chance until mid 20s?

That is the crux of our present dilemma to be brutally honest. I dont think he is a play youth coach and we above most other clubs need to be taking a gamble on our best juniors like Jesse Williams given we are unable to attract any decent outsiders. Flanagan continues to dig his own grave.

If Su'A re-signs, have have Leilua for a few years. Is another backrower needed?
Agree we dont need him if S'ua extends, not that we hold much chance of luring him here. Then there are the next cab off the rank, the Couchmans and a little down the track our crop of outstanding junior forwards. What we do need more than anything else is an elite bookend able to give us a good four years.

Couchman's can play im the second row but they are better in the middle.

Maybe Luciano could be turned into a prop?
Luch just may be the elite big unit bookend we are crying out for but unable to secure due to out coaches poor pulling power. 114ks has the size, adds pace, strength and good ball skills. I do think tho we need him on the edge for the moment as he has been outstanding.

That's the skillset in a prop we need for sure but does he have the stamina to play in the middle? Right now he is apparently having trouble playing on an edge for 80min.

That's another reason why extending de Belin should be an absolute priority!

One of the best talent scouts in the game, the Dolphins’ Peter O’Sullivan, has a major decision to make. The recruitment guru who unearthed the likes of Greg Inglis, Boyd Cordner, Roger Tuivasa-Scheck, Joey Manu, Latrell Mitchell and Isaiah Katoa is off contract with the Dolphins.

O’Sullivan has met with St George Illawarra chairman Andrew Lancaster and the Red V have tabled an offer to try and land the NRL talent scout. The Dolphins are also at the negotiating table and working their way through whether O’Sullivan remains at the club or pursues another opportunity.

It would be a homecoming of sorts if O’Sullivan lands back at St George Illawarra with the recruitment guru starting his career with the St George Dragons many moons ago as an SG Ball coach.

I think this would be a coup!

Whose job would he be taking? So many changes over the last few years I've lost track.

If Su'a doesn't re-sign soon, I think Sitili Tupouniua with the Roosters paying part of his salary for 2 years would be a good pick up. Club needs to demand Su'a sign soon or pull the offer. It's dragging on way too long.

Shane Millard. He's only been in the job a few months. Surely they wouldn't be moving to sack him already. Must be in line for another position. Maybe pathways where Timmins has been for a while.

Jake will be train snd trial same as Cyrus both are 18 this year.
Knowledge of the extension of our best lower graders tends to fly under the radar for us fans. Gotta look closely. For example, who was aware that Sione and Tamale had been extended or the Couchmans?
Sav hasn't been extended and is unsigned for next year.
Si and the Couchmans were originally signed for 2 years till 25, none have been extended yet.
