Round 13 vs Penrith

Hindsight is a beautiful thing, I know. But how good would it have been to sign Katoa from Penrith before the Dolphins swam in to snatch him away? Let Ben Hunt go, pay Katoa his money with enough change to top up Lomax or JDB.
It is easy to say in hindsight but there is no reason the club shouldn't be looking very closely, and recruiting some halves and other positions in clubs where players are stuck behind big name players. Like halfbacks at Penrith, Manly, Melbourne, Cronulla, Dolphins. 5/8s at Melbourne, Canterbury, Canberra, Tigers. Props at Broncos, Gold Coast, Penrith, Parramatta. though it's a bit more difficult for props because teams usually go with 4 in the starting 17.

Why hasn't the club been doing that for years rather than picking up the veterans other clubs don't want?

I think Hunt has value as a hooker. I'd be looking to make Su'A captain and play Hunt at hooker for his final year. Su'A has just re-signed long-term, still only mid 20s, plays 80min. Why not make him captain? Lomax would've been my first choice but.....
Hunt should be playing 9 as you say when and if we get another or should I say a proper 7 ....... But I don't think the Sooky will play there .......

He should be but the clubs needs even a semi first grade standard 1/2 and 5/8. And if we ever get that, Hunt will play hooker or he won't be paid and he won't play anywhere else.

ORIGIN, INJURIES FORCE FLANNO TO TURN TO DRAGONS’ NEXT GEN

"Force". Why did he have to be forced to do this?
Dragons coach Shane Flanagan has had to make mass changes to his side off the back of Origin call-ups and fresh injuries. But the silver lining is the club’s next generation of players – who have been banging on the door of an opportunity – will finally get unleashed.
"Had to" make mass changes. Why did it have to come to this.
Particularly the Couchman twins – Toby and Ryan – who have been named on the bench after Luciano Leilua and Raymond Faitala-Mariner were promoted to the starting side. The 20-year-old twins have arguably been the two most consistent players in New South Wales Cup this year. Toby, who has played prop and lock, has been averaging 161 running metres and 33 tackles per game at an impressive efficiency of 98 per cent. He’s coming off his most dominant performance too having notched up 210 metres – 108 post-contact – and 33 tackles with zero misses in Round 12. Ryan, who has switched between second row and prop this season, has been averaging 145 running metres and 32 tackles per game with an efficiency of 96.7 per cent. He’s also coming off his most dominant performance of the season in which he punched out 80 minutes upfront and finished with 211 metres – 106 post-contact – as well as 44 tackles with just one miss.
Finally. Should also allow JDB and Leilua to play better because the work will be shared around more. But in return, we can afford prop or a lock with a little more ability but who is can't do so much work to take Eisenhuth's place.
Also getting an opportunity this week is 22-year-old Sione Finau, who will replace Zac Lomax on the wing. He scored a hat-trick and ran over 200 metres in NSW Cup last week and will now have the important first crack at replacing Lomax long-term when he leaves at season’s end to join the Eels.
Lot of options from next year regarding a new centre for Bird but I hope Sinoe is going to be a long term winger.
The Couchmans aren’t the only brothers in the Dragons’ line-up this week with the Feagai twins also being named for their first NRL appearance of the season. Mat has been named on the wing, with Mikaele Ravalawa dropping to the reserves. It’s a great reward for the 23-year-old, who has had to spend majority of this season playing fullback in NSW Cup out of necessity. Max replaces the injured Jack Bird in the centres after scoring a try and setting up two more in NSW Cup last weekend.
Good luck. They always had ability with the ball but their defence was so bad. Reading of the play, making the right decision and on the rare occasion they did that, making the tackle.
Meanwhile, late-bloomer Jesse Marschke will fulfil the role he was recruited to the club for – in the halves. The 26-year-old played three NRL games earlier this year but one was at hooker and two were off the bench. He plays his best footy in the halves and will get a chance to show what he can really do while donning Ben Hunt’s No.7 jersey. Marschke has two tries and nine try assists in seven NSW Cup games this season. He’s also been averaging just under 100 running metres per game.
Sounds like he should be 5/8 but Flanno would much rather he play shit at 1/2 than play well at 5/8.

Because those running our club are nongs.
Look at the quality of player we could have on our roster now had the BOD had some balls, instead OF TRYING TO PROTECT THEIR REPUTATIONS

FINALLY Flanagan has seen sense by dumping Rava for the classy Sione Finau and promoting the Couchmans. But he has only gone half way retaining the oh so under performing RFM as a edgie no less. He is no more an edgie than the other log BMM. Marschke running the show worries me. Was the perfect chance to put his son in the play making role and tell him to make the spot his own. Flanagans are a soft bunch.

Our best forward again has to fill the breach left by the Sele injury. No problems for Jack as he'll play wherever is best for the club.

With the Couchman's in the 17, who can play a long time and at a high quality in defence and attack, isn't Eisenhuth unneeded before anyone? Even though I agree with you for RFM and BMM.

Mate have watched him in several Ressie games and he is only passable, not FG standard. Another blue by our R&R team. Jonah Glover has more play making ability. Our season is only limping along so I'd have had a gamble on the diminutive but skillful half Ashton Ward from Flegg.

Yes to Glover, no to diminutive Aston Ward. Will get trampled and lose confidence.

Nice idea if we had anyone to replace him with. Having no one is the main failure.

I just can't..... with that halves pairing, can't pick the Dragons even though I like most of the rest of the selections. How did it come to be we have no little ability or depth in the halves???????
  • Penrith by 10
  • First Try: (first Dragons try that is) JDB
  • MoM: (best for Dragons that is) JDB
