Top 30 for 2023

So my idea about Hunt playing hooker and Sullivan halfback is out the window. So our hooker rotation is going to be McCullough and the Wooden spooners 3rd choice hooker, Liddle. I actually think Liddle will be better than McCullough though McCullough will be the second player picked each week after Hunt as long as Griffin is coach.

Still no idea at all why we are paying Mbye 450k a year. No idea why we are paying him anything at all. I can only conclude it's because Craig Young, who signs off on these things, has had too many head knocks and drunk too much beer.

So the spine next year will be:
1. Ramsey / Mbye
6. Amone / Mbye
7. Hunt / Mbye
9. McCullough / Liddle

I feel a wooden spoon on the way.

I guess he was told he won't even be in reserve grade. And that happened because someone told Hook if he picks Macca, he may as well pack his own bags.

Development players confirmed:
Connor Muhleisen, Jackson Shereb, Josh Coric
So they'll be available for selection after round 10. At least it's promising local juniors and not QLD Cup journeymen this year.

I'm wondering who the other 5 spots in the top 30 are going to go to. 6 if Woods makes his way over to Wests Tigers (fingers crossed). Still might be an opportunity for Hook to raid the QLD Cup to get the players Melbourne, Broncos, Dolphins and NQ don't want.

Scrub Macca for Liddle. Not heard about Woods leaving. Be better mentoring the Ressie props imo if he stays. I'd sure like to scrub Bird from that list. Lobb for the final player? Has speed to burn and skill. His running style reminds me of the great Aussie-born winger Brian Bevan who played most of his career in England. The Finau brothers will come into contention for a spot.

Already making excuses!

DRAGONS RECRUIT’S SPINE DILEMMA

New Dragons hooker Jacob Liddle admits the lack of time with his spine in pre-season will be a challenge heading into his first season with the Red V. Fullback Cody Ramsey has battled illness, while Ben Hunt and Talatau Amone have been on leave after the World Cup, meaning Liddle will have about a month before pre-season games start to nail down his combinations with his fellow spine players.

“It’s hard at the moment with Cody being out and having a hard time,” “Our halves Ben Hunt and Junior aren’t here yet due to the World Cup. “That’s going to be the most important thing, getting that relationship with my halves as soon as possible. There won’t be a whole lot of time going into the season. “I’ll sit down and have a coffee with them and go over things as soon as possible – I’m keen to see where we can go this year.”

I think Toby Couchman is going to be in the top 30. In the DT they were listing all the guys who had off season injury concerns. JDB was one who had shoulder surgery but he's looking good for the trails. Ravalawa was another if you remember the nasty hamstring injury he picked up late last season. Then they talked about Toby Couchman. He also picked up a shoulder injury but should also be fine for the trails.

I wonder if his brother is also going to get a spot.

If both brothers are ready for first grade and are half as good as they were in the juniors, it will be massive for the team! Exactly what the team needs.

That would be a big event if they are ready to go well in first grade immediately. And (if true) I think they might be if Coric for example is only on a development deal, behind the Couchman's.

JDB + 2 Couchmans who are near as good in the NRL as they were in juniors should go a long way to fixing the forwards issues. I just wonder if they would play in the middle or an edge.

A pack of 8. Lawrie, 9. (holding my nose) Liddle, 10. JDB, 11. Couchman, 12. Su'A, 13. Couchman, 14. Bird, 15. Molo, 16. Molo, 17. Mbye

If they are top class forwards in time for next year, they'll be 2 of 5 or 6 every generation. If one was a good first grade forward next year, that would be brilliant. Almost no chance at all both will.

Most underrated player according to Zero Tackle. I think this is probably right but to take advantage of him, he really needs a good, fast winger outside of him.

St George Illawarra Dragons

Moses Suli

The Dragons have two class centres. One played for the PM's 13 against PNG, but the other had a far superior season in every single way.
Suli was one of the Dragons' best in 2022. Outside of the near flawless Ben Hunt, it's tough to actually name a player who performed better consistently. Maybe Jaydn Su'A - but that's it.

The Dragons centre finally lived up to his undoubted promise in 2022 before injury cruelled his back-end to the season. That leads me to believe his credit will come in 2023, but for now Suli remains criminally underrated. He has put all the issues behind him and now looks for an Origin-quality 2023.
