OUR NEXT HEAD COACH

Craig Young and Dean? If there's one bright side to the current train wreck, it's that I don't think they'd dare hire someone with such limited experience as Dean Young.
Agree, in reality we need someone who can take over the same day Griffin is shown the door. The Board has a lot to deliberate at that meeting next week and have to show some intestinal fortitude. However I fear that their head spaces are clouded, I mean who's idea was it to even suggest Billy Slater? Believe me coaching SOO and International teams is nothing like coaching a 1st grade team. It is a moronic idea or suggestion. People also need to understand if they show Griffin the door they have to pay him out he is on a reported $475k this season that is money wasted and can they afford it? There is more than meets the eye or being reported. At least 2 board members need to resign but does anyone believe that they will? My prediction from 2021 was that we will not have a competitive top 8 team until 2025 and that will now rely upon the boards decision or lack of decision making next week.

Took me by surprise when I opened my paper this morning. Billy had not even been in any earlier discussions. What happens if all the prospects say no to our FO. God forbid, it does not bare thinking about.

I was as surprised as anyone when I read about Billy Slater but then in the fine print, they didn't say he was to be offered the job, merely the chance to be interviewed for the job.

What do you class as 'competitive'? I think a good coach can get this team to be competitive very quickly. Need one more good prop, need Sloan to get his hands on the ball much more often. But have JDB for at least another year. Liddle has been good but also have Muhleisen available from round 10. Have Su'a in the back row and Couchman. Have the best combo of Hunt, Sully and Amone in the halves. Lomax and Suli as centres with both Feagai's putting pressure on them. Wingers is an area of concern. Feagai and Rava are just too slow to be among the best wingers.

Then blokes like Ryan Couchman, Johnson, Lobb, Egan, Shereb, Coric who will be pushing hard for a spot in the top 30 next year.

The only things missing are fast wingers, if Lobb doesn't make it, and a good coach.

One winger might be Sione Finau. Next year it could be him and Lobb on the wings.

Personally I have always indicated that signing any ex players as the next head coach would not improve our current situation. It is vitally important that the next coach has that ability to attract the very players we need who want to play under him. Otherwise you just continue on in the circle.
Agree but don't hold your breath .......

I wonder of these are going to be last days where we discuss Hook. I can only refer to this jodragon40 jodragon40 gem and hope Griffin does the right thing.
I would sit him down and say thank you but the writing is on the wall and I'm going to leave before I am unceremoniously dumped. Unfortunately as a coach of any team the ultimate measuring stick is how successful have you been no matter what sport. Personally before the board meets next week I would gather the players before the game against the Raiders and inform them of my intention to resign and thank them for their efforts and wish them luck in the future with their careers. Come Monday I'd be gone. It's a hard thing to do and I have unfortunately done this myself. It hurts, it hurts like hell but you know when it is time, and now is the time for Griffin to walk out with his dignity.
Not the right thing by the club. He's going to be gone either way. But the right thing for his own pride. I hate to see any Dragons coach unceremoniously dumped. It would be much better if he just quit.

Hope so but we are dealing with the Dragons board here. Not any competent organisation.

That would rule out Flanagan.
Seriously? I don't consider someone that played 3 games, 35 yrs ago an ex player. I have indicated that Ryles, Hornby, Young, who I consider to be ex players won't get the gig that's my info. Flanagan or Hasler are my prime candidates. It all depends on the board meeting this week and how much clout Doust still wields. Dont be surprised if the board picks an interim coach for the rest of the season either. Money is still a sticking point. Time will tell if my info is right.

Technically speaking(y). Of course you are right but technically speaking, he's a former Dragons player. Though our excellent allies, South Sydney are pushing hard for Hornby. Our front office is just pathetic enough to take that seriously while any competent organisation would rule it out immediately.

Any competent organisation would rule it out immediately and make clear that they pay no attention at all as to what competitors want.

Seriously, I don't follow other teams but I'm wondering if they are so pathetic that they allow rivals to dictate recruitment and retention decisions. If the Dragons weighed in on the next head coach or marquee signing for the Rorters or Souffs, they'd be laughed out of town. But when those `(%#$ weigh in on who we should recruit, it must be taken very seriously.......
