I think he is eligible for a huge salary cap dispensation. He's been in the top 30 since he was 18, hasn't he? Isn't it something like 10% per year after 10 years?

I believe it starts out at 5% after 8 years and then increases a little more each year until topping out at 20%. So he's at least costing 20% less per year in the cap
That's not how it works.

The allowance is capped at around 200k and all clubs claim it so there is no advantage in it.
Players with 10 years NRL or 8 years at the club are eligible, so are junior players and players developed by the club.

It's usual spread over multiple players, some of our squad that are eligible are
Sloan, Feagais, Rava, Lomax, Amone, Hunt, JDB, Russell, Lawrie, Molo every other junior.

Couchmans look like being JDB 2.0. Just as hard, just as skillful, plays just as long minutes but a bit bigger and faster. But I still hope JDB gets "at least" one more year. He was playing 70~80 min on a regular basis last season! Very few middle forwards do that and it's hardly like he ever goes missing.

Middle rotation including JDB, Couchman x 2, Lawrie and jodragon40 jodragon40 forward coach:confused:.
With JDB it's not one more year it's two, he will be 34 at the start of 2025.

As a middle he is solid but offers no impact, he's style of 13 is dated. His defence is top class but his technique is getting him in trouble now and could be a worry moving forward.

As you said we have the Couchy twins plus Viliami Fifita and Alec Tuitavake in the top 30 next season. If they kick on it will put pressure on an aging JDB.
I would not be making a decision on him until mid next year.

Finau Latu is 19 and should come into the top 30 in 2025, I thnk he could be a long term 13 for us.

When signing or extending a player there is a lot to consider over multiple years in shaping our list.

I like JDB but there is something to be said for the above. Not sure I agree about his style of play being dated. Not his fault if he's under instructions to be a link man. A good 34 year-old middle forward is very rare.

That sux. In other words, it's nothing at all for a club which develops players.

He'd have more impact if he wasn't a middle forward playing 70~80min. It's true "if" Fifita and Tuitavake kick on it will put pressure on JDB but that's a big if.

Agree about Latu. Make is debut next season and be a regular in 2025. I still think there will be a place for JDB coming off the bench in 2025.

But yeah, no hurry. Lets see how he goes in the first half of next season under Flanno. No one is going to sign him for more than one year and no one will sign a 34 year-old middle forward for just one year so he won't be going anywhere.

Unless we obtain a decent front row rotation I won't be throwing my hat into the ring to coach

I see. So it's actually pretty useless.

The theory is that being forced to sit out those 2 years in the middle of his career will prolong it.

My vote is Jacob Halangahu for the long term #13 either '25 or '26 if Jack plays on, which I think he will. Remember he missed two full seasons of footy. I see Finau Latu either on the edge or middle to scatter defenders like they were midgets as he did in the Junior Roos match.

Plenty of talent coming through. I hope unlike almost all the others over the past 10 years, at least several of these make it. Make it not just as fringe first graders but genuine stars.

Couchman's are already a lock to become at least fringe rep players in my opinion.

We all hope that. Well those two named have a head start as they hail from that great schoolboy RL nursery, Patrician Brothers Blacktown. They will play Flegg this season for Saints after playing Ball last season.

Really interested to know what is going on with Josh Coric. From all I have seen and heard, he's like a bigger, faster, more skillful version of Blake Lawrie.

Just a Mug Fan Just a Mug Fan you seem to be a bit more than just a mug fan and have a good ear to the ground at the club. Should we be prepared for any surprises come Nov 1?
Nov 1 is a bit of a myth date, it really means nothing. If this link works for Dragons Den Pod, David Riolo explains it well at 33min mark.

Players I know we have had negotiations with are Blore, Finefeuiaki, Curran and Ipape.
We have reached out to Luai agent and will use Hunts million to lure him.

They played Matts last season and will play Ball next season before moving into Flegg. They will also do the pre season with the NRLsquad..

Luai would work with a good, game managing halfback like Cleary. Not Hunt who has a good running game rather than good, game managing skills.
