Recruitment and Retention for 2024

Interesting
Very. But lets see when pen is put to paper. So far we are being linked to:
  • Dearden
  • AFB
  • Manu
  • Kulikefu Finefeuiaki
  • Hugh Renton
Need one of them to put pen to paper. A large number of second rowers. Have Egan and Shereb pushing for a second row spot and club looking to recruit 2 more.

I wonder if they might be thinking about him as a front rower?

That's great. Sounds good. But why isn't the club raiding rugby for a 5/8???? Is Flanno putting the success of his son above the success of the team?
Indeed. Kyle must be impressing unless his dad is the dictator of St George Illawarra and no one is brave enough to tell him the truth.

I like the idea. Build a young team over the next 2 years around JDB, Lomax, Hunt, Bird, Lawrie, Liddle.

Though in 3 years from now, it might be a worry without JDB, Hunt probably Liddle and Bird. Lawrie is a superstar prop either. I think he might not cut it in 3 years. Might have to recruit a few veterans.
Mate recruit a few veterans , you and I might as well come out of retirement ๐Ÿ˜‚

And rope Jo Dragon in as head coach.
Players these days would complain to the media about psychological abuse.

Just a joke. Sounded like the Bulldogs player had every reason to be angry and I'm sure JoDragon was a much better coach than Ciraldo. At least until now. If the Dogs start next season poorly as well, the knives are going to be out for him, 4 year deal or not.

This is actually for 2025

DRAGONS

Off-contract 2025: Jack Bird, Ryan Couchman, Toby Couchman, Dylan Egan, Viliami Fifita, Sione Finau, Kyle Flanagan, Jacob Halangahu, Ben Hunt, Dan Russell

Analysis: Ben Hunt will be 35 when his Dragons contract expires in 2025 and if the club manage to hold onto him until then he could likely still earn a swan song season at a club like the Broncos in 2026. Hunt covets a premiership win after the heartbreak of 2015 and wonโ€™t be winning one with the Dragons, so a final fling with the club he started at would make sense. Jack Birdโ€™s career has been hampered by repeated injuries, but he still offers plenty of versatility and toughness at the right price. Kyle Flanagan is looking to resurrect his career in his first season at the Dragons and can convince the club he can be their long-term halfback with a big season as a playmaker in 2024.

  • Jack Bird - Keep as a utility?
  • Ryan Couchman - Definitely keep.
  • Toby Couchman - Definitely keep.
  • Dylan Egan - Definitely keep.
  • Viliami Fifita - ?
  • Sione Finau - Definitely keep.
  • Kyle Flanagan - I have my doubts.
  • Jacob Halangahu - Definitely keep.
  • Ben Hunt - Retire
  • Dan Russell - Tackling machine but probably not good enough for a new contract.

Our favourite ex coach jodragon40 jodragon40 is copping it from everyone recently.
BTW this won't make RedVHeartbeat RedVHeartbeat in particular very happy but Ben Hunt is staying for at least next year. It's been decided. I was in favour of sending him on his way and giving Sullivan a decent crack but now it's been done, he's reported to "only" being taking up 800k in the salary cap. TBH, for a halfback, not the best but far from the worst, 800k seems like a pretty good deal considering what other halfbacks are on.

I have consistently said 2025 should see us in the top 8.

Ciraldo is an excellent example of moving from a well structured club to a hap hazard club. Doesn't matter how good a coach you are if you don't have the cattle and the support staff you get what we saw last season with Ciraldo.

I have an idea, let's have a scrum made up of entirely back rowers who needs props? Seriously though what is going on? We need 2 big front rowers, the ones that hold up the hooker. F.M.,
I remember several years ago NSW tried that in Origin. NSW had a stack of really good second rowers and went with about 7 of them and only 1 or 2 specialist props. They got flogged.
