Round 18: vs Sydney Roosters

Harsh. You can't lay the blame for all the bad defense on one guy in a loss that big. Is up to the middle defense to do the hard slog and not make the job of f/b as the last line in defense, so hard. For instance three middles made only 43 tackles between them. Sloan's defense and defensive attitude has improved markedly this season.

💯
Maybe a bit harsh that one.

I agree Sloan defensively has improved especially in the air. No doubt the coaching staff have been concentrating on this area of his play. However his positional play especially in our red zone and his ability to read the play and follow the ball is poor. Obviously when you are concentrating on improving a players weaknesses this can have a negative affect on his strengths and this is clear to see statistically. In this particular game Tedesco - 27 runs - 327m, Sloan - 14 runs - 70m. There are of course other reasons why this is so, it's easier to inject yourself into your backline when your engine room is making 50m a set.

Do we actually conduct set plays/ moves/structures at training so we can duplicate them in a match. Who is our offense coach. There was one shocker play where Hunt and Flanno collided only a metre from the line, stuffing a valuable six pointer.

It all went pear shaped when Hunt sconned Jack, Collins onto Tedesco and with Sloan up in the line he had a clear run. Another 10m and reckon Toby would've nabbed him. Good pace for a forward. Reason I maintain he'd be a terrific edgie.

Surprised me how fast he is too. Was always good on an edge or in the middle as a junior. We are good for edge forwards now. Need both Couchman's im the middle or on an edge in case of injury.

And we need Kyle Flanagan TG out of the 17. BMM will be out but I still find it astonishing he's getting picked before Ryan.

Jack is our defensive enforcer. A pity some others dont follow his lead. Be a great defensive coach when he retires.
Love JDB tackling technique he reminds me of a Ron Coote . However in saying that he is not what I would call an enforcer in my day. A tackling enforcer was more like a Gillespie, a Gillmeister when they hit you you stayed hit the opposition wouldn't run at you. Another type of enforcer was that big bodied player that had a mongrel streak in him like Gordon Tallis, Mark O'Mealy, Paul Harrigan,Spud Carroll. Agree JDB would make a decent defensive coach.

Jack seems very unaggressive. Except when it comes to chasing skirt. Not a bad thing (being unaggressive). He takes his aggression out in his defence. But it would be good if he didn't have to do so much tackling so he had more energy to run more. I thought Eisenhuth was in the team to be a tackling machine. He doesn't do lot of it for a tackling machine and when he does it, it's quite ineffective. Legs tackles allowing offloads or quick play the balls. Dylan Egan is a more effective defender. If Flanno wants a tackling machine, should go with Egan.

The Chief, the pick for me of that foursome you typed, not so much for his mongrel but as a player. Throwing in Glenn Lazarus and Noel Cleal too. Who can forget Geoff 'wild man' Robinson who sadly left us this week, reached cult hero status with his mongrel.

I'm sure they do but the execution of those plays are poor not top 10. I know I repeat this far too often RL is a simple game. Your engine room makes the advantage line consistently, quick play the balls, execute your attacking structures, complete your sets, minimise your errors. In defence minimise missed tackles no more than 2 per player, keep your defensive line structures, communicate with your shoulder defenders, the most dangerous player is the one carrying the leather, force the opposition into mistakes . Simples

Lost you for a sec?
Typo. Meant to say TF (the f*ck) out

Flanno isn't doing Kyle any favours. Kyle might be able to get a deal in the ESL if Flanno stops embarrassing him every week. As is Flanno is merely pissing everyone off including I'm sure Kyle's teammates and embarrassing Kyle himself.

Flanno Jr is only half the problem, our so called leader and captain is the rest. The coach and the Board have to get real and send him packing after this season. He has overstayed his welcome big time. You could count the good ball in hand plays he does a season on two hands. He did one yesterday, the chip, chase and regather. Unfortunately he messed it up with that panic pass to Jack that bounced off his noggin and gifted the Rorters another nail for our coffin.
