Jackson Ford and Jack Gosiewski on the bench with Bird starting does seem a little 'light'. Specially because the bigger forwards made the most metres last week.I think this team is going to change quite a lot between now and kick off. 16. Jackson Ford 17. Jack Gosiewski in the 17? Is the coach expecting a super quick game where the big guys will be exhausted early? Or he does he think Jackson Ford deserves a spot and is intent on appeasingjodragon40 by picking Gosiewski? I rate them both but both are lightweight forwards as is J. Bird. Both J. Hunt and M. Molo in the squad is interesting. And no back up hooker which I guess means Mbye is playing for 80min and if he gets injured, B. Hunt will move to hooker and Bird into the halves.
BTWEric this is round 3, not round 4.
I wonder if there won't be a late change with one of them again pushed to 18th man to make way for Burgess, M. Molo or J. Hunt.Jackson Ford and Jack Gosiewski on the bench with Bird starting does seem a little 'light'. Specially because the bigger forwards made the most metres last week.
Sullivan is still out. Expected back next week.So-called "Power Rankings" according to Fox Sports: (it would be nice if these people had any idea who's injured and who's not and etc. Is Sullivan finally back? If so, there's still no way Hook would pick him in the 17 despite no games so far this year.
6. ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA DRAGONS
Last week’s ranking: 7th (up one spot)
Analysis: They went down 20-16 to the defending premiers, but there was still plenty to like about the Dragons’ performance against Penrith. A crucial sin bin to Jaydn Su’A saw the score blow out from 6-6 to 20-6 to the Panthers, before the Dragons launched a spirited late comeback. The injury to Andrew McCullough is a big blow, but in Moses Mbye and Jayden Sullivan the Dragons have enough to cover hooker until he returns and they are still on track to be one of the biggest movers on the ladder this season.
Why not? You can make it. I'm too much into the game to comment except for halftime.Going to be a live game chat?
According to Fox sports, Amone did have 17 run metres. I can't remember it.Needs to be changes in the forwards. I rememberjodragon40 said Lawrie and Bird ran for less than 100m last week. Then tonight less than 100 between them! And Bird missed several tackles as well. Bird is a danger in attack but otherwise, best suited to the bench utility role. Next week's starting pack needs to be Molo, McCullough, Woods, Sims, Su'A (was actually pretty good tonight), JDB (best forward again). Bird and Lawrie on the bench but Lawrie is really in danger of being dropped.
Next problem is Amone and Sloan. Easy to say it was an off night for Sloan but he was channeling Dufty from last year. Catching the ball and slowly jogging back to the defensive line and surrendering when reaching the defence. There is no excuse for that! Obviously the coach wasn't impressed. As for Amone, why is he suddenly frightened to run the ball this year? It was apparent in the first 2 games but tonight was taking it to absurd levels.
Suli might be under some pressure as well.Needs to be changes in the forwards. I rememberjodragon40 said Lawrie and Bird ran for less than 100m last week. Then tonight less than 100 between them! In the first half, toward the end of the half, there was a half break. Was passed to Amone who ran for at least 10m before passing.According to Fox sports, Amone did have 17 run metres. I can't remember it.
My view is this I was always interested in watching my pack run around in quagmire conditions because it gives you a real leveller in regards to if you have enough muscle in the engine room. As I said in another post we appeared to be light on in the pack last night which we may have got away with on a dry track but not in the wet and we were flogged. It is a big worry going forward. Look if Burgess has not been stood down then he and Molo start next week. Debelin off the bench is like keeping your Ferrari in the garage and using the family Toyota until you realise you should have been using the Ferrari from the start. McCullough was always going to hurt us in defence I expected in those conditions last night many attacking darts from dummy half from Mbye but because he did so much tackling he was spent in attack and that is understandable. Once again clean breaks were made in the middle of the ruck and that sends a big SOS to the coaching staff. I was underwhelmed by both Sloan kick return especially but he would have been instructed to hit the ground and not be pushed back. As for Amone we'll he has to be playing to instructions. As everyone saw last night and I always mention if your pack is going backwards you can have the Kangaroo backline in your team and it won't make a difference so you have to forgive our backs for last night.1. Tyrell Sloan - Obviously the coach was justifiably unhappy.
2. Cody Ramsey - Not bad.
3. Moses Suli - Took 2 runs in the first 5 min but then almost unseen for the remainder. Feagai might be a better option but will probably get one more chance.
4. Zac Lomax - Not bad.
5. Mikaele Ravalawa - Not bad. Did he have the most running metres again?
6. Talatau Amone - Terrible in defence. Kicking was poor. Did nothing in attack. Sullivan will be back next week but Hook will probably want him to play in NSW Cup for a week so one more chance for Amone.
7. Ben Hunt - Not bad.
8. Francis Molo - Not bad.
9. Moses Mbye - An interchange utility. Definitely not a starting hooker.
10. Blake Lawrie - Very little impact and go-forward again. Bench or NSW Cup next week.
11. Jack Bird - What to do with him? Causes headaches for the defence in attack but poor middle defender.
12. Jaydn Su’A - One of our best.
13. Tariq Sims - Not bad.
14. Jack de Belin - Good in running and of course defending.
15. Josh Kerr - Also seemed to run for more metres than Lawrie and Bird but I haven't checked the stats.
16. Jackson Ford - Not bad.
17. Jack Gosiewski - Not bad.
Next week I predict/hope for:
17 is a tough choice. Go with Gosiewski who deserves it or with a prop which is probably a better balance even if the prop doesn't deserve it. Then if it is a prop, Burgess or Lawrie?

Most of the problems are a known quantity. Lawrie can't pass and doesn't make good metres. According to the stats, even his defence was poor last night. I want to see a local junior who seems to always put in 110% succeed just as much as anyone but for the good of the team, maybe he needs a spell in the NSW Cup where he has to learn to pass the ball.1. Yep. Well said but I'm not sure about Amone. Why would the coach be giving him instructions not to run when running was previously his biggest strength as a 5/8? Surely the de Belin bench experiment is over. If he needs a break at some stage, give him a break but he starts the game and stays on until he needs a break!Agree 100% with this.

Amone must be close to getting dropped. Last night everything he touched turned to shit. Kicking was atrocious and turnstile in defence on top of his non-running.
- So it was a coaching failure. Even with Burgess and Woods unavailable, the coach had options for bigger players. J. Hunt and M. Molo were both in the extended squad.
- De Belin off the bench experiment has been a failure. The team is much better with him starting and playing as many minutes as possible.
- Mbye playing out of position. Can't really blame him for a bad game but Connor Muhleisen should be in the top 30 and picked if McCullough is unavailable! Why hasn't it been done? Instead we have Alvaro and Faamausili who are unlikely to see any first grade unless there is an injury/suspension crisis and even then, not both of them.
- A clean break through the middle of the ruck happens from time to time. It doesn't happen every week and multiple times last night unless there's a serious problem!
- Sloan had a bad game. No doubt. He just has to be much better next week.
- Amone's running game was pretty much non existent in the first 2 games when the forwards went well so I don't think there is any excuse for him taking his non running to the next level last night.
- But the forwards were poor making it harder for Amone. No doubt about that.
