Though I might have to disagree with you there. A faster, much bigger and more confident Sloan could become a superstar. Lets wait and see.

I believe ever since I saw him first play in our juniors I said he reminded me of a David Peachy moves beautifully and effortlessly across the park. But it won't matter in this team with this pack.

Needs more help. I didn't rate Peachy close to Sloan. At least on potential.

So there are now 4 spots open in the top 30 and still the two development contract positions. We have:
  • Toby Couchman (second row or lock)
  • Ryan Couchman (second row or lock)
  • Dylan Egan (second row)
  • Haele Finau (hooker)
  • Zach Herring (half or 5/8)
  • Aaron Johnson (prop)
  • Alexander Lobb (winger)
  • Dan Russell (second row)
  • Jacob Webster (prop)
So which 3 miss out?
  • Dylan Egan is 18. He'll do well with a year in the lower grades.
  • Dan Russell is 28 this year. Dragons already have the oldest pack in the competition.
  • Aaron Johnson is a hard choice to cut but he has always seemed to me like Eddie Blacker. Relies on his size but won't be so big in an open age group.
So who are the two going to be on development contracts?
  • Zach Herring could do with playing in an open age group for 10 weeks.
  • Toby or Ryan Couchman because they play in the same position.
Just my view.

Looks good. I know almost nothing about the juniors coming through but I know we need good, young forwards in a hurry.

Can the club release players from the top 30 even if they are under contract? Of course they would still have to pay the player and it would still count in the salary cap if no other club picks them up but can they be released anyway?

Good question. I guess it's possible but doesn't make much sense, does it? An 18 year-old future star is probably no better in first grade now than a 30 year-old journeyman. The former would do better to stay in the lower grades for another year.

  1. Tyrell Sloan (Of course.)
  2. Mikaele Ravalawa (Maybe but so slow for a winger.)
  3. Moses Suli (Still got his nose in front of the Feagai's.)
  4. Zac Lomax (Of course.)
  5. Mat Feagai (better as a centre than winger.)
  6. Moses Mbye (if Sullivan and Amone are out, I guess this is right.)
  7. Ben Hunt (of course.)
  8. Blake Lawrie (of course.)
  9. Jacob Liddle (I guess there are no better options and how bad is that?)
  10. Zane Musgrove (I guess so.)
  11. Jack Bird (better tackle properly this year!)

But who to replace Rava or Fegai with? What if Bird's defence hasn't improved? Who to replace Kerr and Burns with? What if J. Hunt and M. Molo don't do well enough in the trials to replace Woods with? This is I fear what is going to be the main issue. Feagai and Rava are the best available wingers. Bird won't tackle and won't get a baking or get hooked or replaced or anything. No better options than Kerr and Burns. J. Hunt and M. Molo never kick on to become regular first grade standard players.

I guess so unless Herring is given a development contract and is able to play in the halves from round 10. Any team will struggle badly if it's two first choice half backs are out.

ZACH HERRING (halves)​

The five-eighth has progressed through the Dragons’ lower grades and spent majority of 2022 in Jersey Flegg but get seven games in NSW Cup. He had a standout game in Round 19, setting up three tries, running for 112 metres, getting five tackle busts and making 22 tackles. A Wollongong product, Herring is most at home in the halves but can also cover hooker if need be.

As I was saying nothing has changed from last season fingers crossed for a 12th finish
